Abstract

Iron oxide is (co)precipitated, on a suspended carrier, from a solution containing divalent iron and opt. other divalent metal(s) (Co, Ni) by gradually and homogeneously converting the Fe++ at pH 2-6.5 under controlled temp. conditions into trivalent form and then collecting the loaded carrier, followed by washing, drying and heating if necessary. This method allows a much smoother, more even preparation, the carrier can be more heavily loaded (permitting higher magnetization), and filtration is particularly easy.
