Abstract

Metal test samples for spectrographic or X-ray fluorescent analysis. N7-. Taken in the form of powder or turnings from the article to be tested, are formed into a compact piece by induction melting in a ceramic crucible, under a protective gas. The heat is developed in the sample and the excess temperature over the melting point can be accurately controlled to prevent or minimise loss of more volatile components. The agitation produced in the melt leads to a completely homogeneous sample.
