The invention relates to a box for packaging and transporting bakery products. A box of this kind is known from Austrian Patent Specification 362,297. In this known box for cake or the like, the rectangular bottom plate has four mutually connected upright walls, which terminate in closing parts. Two opposite upright walls have slots in the closing parts, the other two walls have handle parts which in the closed position protrude through the slots at a distance above the center of the bottom plate. The box can be carried horizontally on the handle parts.

The drawback of this known box is that it is only accessible from above, which makes it difficult to insert or remove products from the box without oversizing the box.

The object of the invention is to overcome this drawback and to ensure that handle parts are provided for carrying the box horizontally.

With the box according to the invention the intended object is achieved in that: - the bottom plate is provided on three sides with upright walls, which respectively form a rear wall and two opposite side walls, - a first closing part is connected to the top sides of the upright walls. , which closing part closes two-thirds to three-quarters of the space that is present between the bottom plate and the upright walls and is provided with a first handle part and on both sides thereof at a distance from the rear wall and in the middle between the side walls transversely thereof, and - that the bottom plate is hingedly connected on its fourth side to a second closing part which, on the side opposite the hinge side, has an edge profile which comprises a second handle part, which corresponds in shape with the said first handle part, and a protruding lip on either side thereof , whose width corresponds to the length of the slots and which slots the lip n are pluggable.

With a box thus formed, when the box is opened, the bottom plate and the second closing part lie in the same plane, so that for instance a cake or pizza can easily be slid over the closing part on the bottom plate without coming into contact with it manually.

To close the box, the second closing part is folded up on its hinge side and bent over the sides of the side walls, so that the protruding lips can be slid into the slots of the first closing part. The two handle parts in this position together form a sturdy handle on which the box can be easily carried. Since the handle is positioned above the center of the box, maintaining a horizontal position is no problem.

The invention will be explained in more detail below with reference to the figures, of which figure 1 schematically shows a perspective view of the box according to the invention in opened position, and of which figure 2 shows the same box in a similar view while it is closed.

In the figures 1 is a square bottom plate, on three sides of which upright side walls 2, 3 and a rear wall 4 are attached. A closing part 5 is connected to the top sides of the walls 2,3 and 4.

The dimensions of closing part 5 are chosen such that two thirds to three quarters of the space between the bottom plate and the walls 2, 3 and 4 is closed. In closing part 5, a handle part 6 is formed which is foldably connected to part 5 and is provided with handle opening 7. The opening which is released in part 5 when folding up part 6 is preferably covered by a transparent fleece 8 (for instance made of polyethylene) that is glued along its edges to the underside of part 5. 45 slots 9 and 10 are further arranged in closing part 5.

In a manner customary in the packaging industry, the box according to the invention, for instance by punching, can be manufactured from one sheet of cardboard and the parts indicated above in the cardboard sheet are defined by folding ribs. Along these ribs the walls 2, 3 and closing part 5 are folded up and folded and then joined together by means of glue or staples.
