Abstract
A decorative device for cardboard or plastic boxes is proposed, comprised of a die-cut multi-sheet defining a main section that is essentially rectangular (1), with a length that matches the internal length of one of walls of the box it is designed to be implemented on, with said main section extending at the back thereof into a second rectangular section (4) designed to rest on the internal side of the wall of the box the device is applied on, with the particularity that the two fins (5) protrude from the sides of the main section that is essentially rectangular (1), which in turn extend from one of the sides thereof into a tab (6) used to secure them to the second rectangular section (4), and more specifically to a section in the shape of a right triangle (7) designed to correspond with the ends thereof, with both elements being fixed by means of adhesive, and with said section comprising a folding line (8) that corresponds with the hypotenuse of the right triangle in order to fold the device when it is not being used.
Description
Decorative device for cardboard or plastic boxes.
The present invention refers to a decorative device for cardboard or plastic boxes, more specifically for boxes that are open on the top, with the aim of defining a type of overhang over one of the borders of the mouth of the box, which can feature information, decorative motifs, ads, etc.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and low-cost accessory using a multi-sheet piece that can be easily implemented on the aforementioned type of boxes in a simple and stable way.
In the preferred field of application of the invention, which is the field of fruit and vegetables containers, it is common for said products to be presented in cardboard or plastic boxes or on trays with a rectangular shape and an open top, so that although said boxes can display information on the side walls thereof about the product contained inside them, these boxes or trays are usually stacked up side by side so their side walls are hidden by adjacent boxes, thus needing to use separate signs placed over the product, which can be easily misplaced, and with said signs commonly being used for the sole purpose of indicating the price of the products and not to display any product information, decorative motifs, etc.
The decorative device for cardboard or plastic boxes described completely solves the drawback mentioned above with a simple but effective solution.
More specifically, the device of the invention is comprised of a die-cut multi-sheet defining a main rectangular section, which determines the overhang or visible surface that rests flush against the border of one of the walls of the box at the level of the mouth thereof, with said rectangular section extending at the back thereof into a second rectangular section designed to rest on the internal side of the wall of the box the device is placed on.
Two fins protrude from the sides of the main rectangular section, which in turn extend from one of the sides thereof into a tab used to secure them to the second rectangular section, more specifically to an end section in the shape of a right triangle designed to correspond with the ends thereof, with both elements being fixed by means of adhesive, and with said section comprising a folding line that corresponds with the hypotenuse of the right triangle in order to fold the device when it is not being used, thus taking up a minimal flattened volume, while the device can be easily unfolded when it is implemented on one of the sides of the mouth of a box, with the two rectangular sections of the device forming a right dihedron that is closed on both sides thereof by means of the aforementioned set of tabs and fins, with said element fitting tightly against the inner contour of the mouth of the box, defining a narrow overhang that is ideal for including decorative motifs, ads, information, etc.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the second rectangular section comprises a die-cut with a shape and size matching the slit or grip of the box it is placed on in order to prevent the device from affecting the portability of the box, with said die-cut being full (creating a hole) or partial, that is, affecting only three of the four sides of the slit in order to be able to fold said section up or down through the grip, thus providing an additional element for stabilising the device on the box.
In this regard, when used on ventilated plastic boxes with walls featuring gaps, the lateral fins of the device can be extended on the rear ends thereof into extensions inserted into the corresponding gaps of the box, further increasing the stability of the device on the assembly ofthe box.
According to an embodiment of the invention, the tabs located under the first rectangular section are extended on the internal sides thereof into a series of protrusions that are inserted into openworks made on said rectangular section at the level of the folding line thereof with the second rectangular section.
This ensures that the device is not prone to folding back into its original position once it has been unfolded.
To complete the invention described below and in order to give a better understanding of the characteristics of the invention, according to a preferred embodiment thereof, this description is accompanied by a set of drawings in which the figures described below have been represented, for purely illustrative purposes and should not be construed as limiting:
Figure 1.- Shows a plan view of a decorative device for cardboard or plastic boxes designed according to the simplest embodiment of the object of the present invention.
Figure 2.- Shows a similar view as the one shown in figure 1, but corresponding to an embodiment in which the device is designed to be implemented on ventilated plastic boxes.
Figure 3.- Shows a perspective view of the device of figure 1, duly assembled.
Figure 4.- Shows a perspective view of the device of the invention, duly implemented on a plastic box.
Figure 5.- Shows a plan view of a third embodiment of the device.
Figure 6.- Shows a perspective view of the device of figure 5, duly assembled.
In light of the figures described, the device of the invention is comprised of a die-cut multi- sheet defining a main section that is essentially rectangular (1), which determines the overhang or visible surface that rests flush against the border of one of the walls of the box (2) at the level of the mouth thereof, although the free border (3) thereof could have a different contour based on the design thereof, with said rectangular section extending at the back thereof into a second rectangular section (4) designed to rest on the internal side of the wall of the box the device is placed on.
Thus, two fins (5) protrude from the sides of the main rectangular section (1), which in turn extend from one of the sides thereof into a tab (6) used to secure them to the second rectangular section (4), more specifically to a section in the shape of a right triangle (7) designed to correspond with the ends thereof, with both elements being fixed by means of adhesive, and with said section comprising a folding line (8) that corresponds with the hypotenuse of the right triangle in order to fold and stack the device when it is not being used, while as shown in figure 3, the device can be easily unfolded when it is implemented on one of the sides of the mouth of a box (2), with its two rectangular sections forming a right dihedron that is closed on both sides and that fits tightly on one of the sides of the mouth of the box, resting tightly and partially on the two adjoining sides, with the whole device forming a narrow overhang that is ideal for featuring decorative motifs, ads, information, etc.
In order to improve the stability of the device, the device can be adapted to the length of the side of a box comprising slits that are used as grips, with the second rectangular section (4) comprising a die-cut (9) in the shape of said slit defining the grip, with said die-cut being a partial die-cut in the example embodiment, thus defining a folding line (10) for said die-cut in order to insert it through the grip of the box, providing the assembly with greater stability, even though the die-cut can be a full die-cut in order to create a hole, or the folding line of the die-cut can be arranged on the opposite end thereof so that said die-cut can be folded both up or down through the slit of the grip.
As for the folding lines defined between the main section that is essentially rectangular (1) and the rectangular section (4) and the fins (5), these could feature small partial U-shaped die-cuts so that folding these elements would define sections protruding from said folding edge or area, which would define means of stabilising the assembly.
As shown in figure 2, when the device is designed for ventilated plastic boxes with walls featuring gaps, the lateral fins (5) of the device can be extended on the rear ends thereof into protruding extensions (11) designed to be inserted into the corresponding gaps of the box next to the vertical edges thereof, further increasing the stability of the device.
It should be highlighted that the free vertex (the one that is not affected by the area being glued) of the tabs (6) could be rounded in order to prevent it from damaging the fruit contained inside the box.
According to an embodiment based on figures 5 and 8, the tabs (6) are extended on the internal sides thereof into a series of protrusions (12) that are inserted into openworks (13) made on the rectangular section (1) at the level of the folding line thereof with the second rectangular section (4).
This solution also provides an additional advantage, which is that when the device according to the two first embodiments is unfolded in order to place it, the user needs to use both hands in order to maintain the shape of the device, while this is not necessary for the device according to the last embodiment since the protrusions (12) are inserted into the openworks (13) when the device is unfolded so the device is perfectly assembled and stabilised. 5
