Abstract

The connecting component (1) is for joining a first body (4), such as a tube or pipe, with a second body (5), such as a tube or pipe, and has first and second legs, which with a first end are joined to each other. In at least one of the legs is a recess for accommodation of at least a part of the first body. The first and second legs at their second ends have devices for fixture of the connecting component on the second body. The legs are displaceable in relation to each other from a first position for receiving the first and second bodies respectively in the first and second recesses and a second position for clampiong the first and second bodies between the legs. The tubes or pipes form part of a balustrade (2) which incorporates a number of upright spikes (3).

Description

Connection element.
The present invention relates to a connecting element for connecting a first body to a second body.
The connecting element according to the invention is particularly suitable for connecting a first body such as a tube or pipe, with a second body such as a tube or pipe. The connecting element can be used, for example, when raising a balustrade.
According to the prior art, when raising a balustrade 10, a structural element must be screwed together in advance or the structural element must be welded in the correct shape. The prepared structural element must be transported to the balustrade to be raised with the structural element. This means that a user in the workplace must prepare the structural element very accurately. The preparation time for such activities is therefore often high. During transport, the construction elements will require a relatively large amount of space. Moreover, the structural elements can be damaged during transport.
In view of the above, it is the object of the present invention to provide a connecting element, which is particularly suitable for raising a balustrade, wherein a balustrade can be raised at the place of action quickly and without preparation time.
According to the present invention, that object is provided by a connecting element which is characterized in that the connecting element comprises a first and a second leg, which are connected to each other with a first end, wherein at least one of the legs is provided with a first recess for receiving at least a portion of the first body therein and wherein the first leg and the second leg at the second end thereof comprise means for attaching the connecting element to the second body and wherein the legs are movable relative to each other of a first position for receiving the first and the second body in the first and the second recesses, respectively, and a second position for clamping the first body and the second body between the legs. It is possible here for the means for attaching the connecting element to the second body to comprise at least a second recess in at least one of the legs for receiving at least a portion in the second recess from the second body.
According to the invention, it is possible for a user to take along a number of tube lengths and a number of connecting elements to a balustrade that must be raised. At the destination, the user can use the connecting elements according to the invention to clamp a tube length with two or more connecting elements on the existing railing. This can take place in that the user manually moves or bends the connecting element according to the invention from a first position in which the existing balustrade and the tube with which the balustrade is raised is pushed into the connecting element, to a second position in which the connecting element moves the tube and clamp the existing railing. Only then does the user actually have to fix the connecting element in the second position. This fixing can for instance take place with the aid of spot welding or can take place with the aid of spot welding in combination with other fastening elements such as bolts and nuts.
By using the connecting element according to the present invention, the preparation time when raising the balustrade is minimal. At the destination, the user can place a required number of connecting elements according to the present invention between a pipe part and a balustrade. When the tube is attached, it can be made to length as desired. Due to the measure of the invention, the mounting of an additional tube on an existing balustrade can be carried out quickly and thereby cheaply.
According to the invention, it is advantageous for the first leg to be hingedly connected to the second leg. It is possible that the first leg and the second leg are connected to each other by means of a hinge. This hinge can be a hinge known from the prior art or a material dilution in the material of the connecting element. In the latter case, the connecting element can be bent from its first to its second position by plastic deformation of a portion of the connecting element.
According to the invention, it is furthermore possible that both the first leg and the second leg comprise a first and a second recess, which recesses connect to each other in the second position of the legs. In order to be able to move the connecting element around a first and a second body, there must be a recess at least in the first and / or the second leg for receiving the first body and the second body therein. It is advantageous if both bodies comprise a recess, the recesses connecting to each other in the second position of the legs. In this way it is achieved that the connecting element can be arranged symmetrically around the webs in the mounted state.
According to the invention, it is possible that the first and the second recesses are each semi-circular.
In an advantageous embodiment it is provided that the connecting element is formed from a strip, wherein the first end of the first leg connects directly to the first end of the second leg. It is possible that the first and the second recesses in the legs are formed by transforming the material of the strip. Furthermore, it is possible that the thickness of the strip varies along its length, the connection of the first end of the first leg to the second leg being relatively thin, and wherein the second end of the first leg and the second leg relatively thick.
The above-mentioned measures make it possible to form a connecting element according to the present invention from a strip. This strip is converted so that recesses are formed in both legs for receiving a first and a second body, respectively. The legs will connect directly to each other with a first end and merge with each other. This portion of the strip can be of thin design so that the connecting element is easy to move from the first to the second position thereof. The free end of both legs can be made thicker, so that in the mounted position a firm attachment of the connecting element to a first and a second body is guaranteed.
According to the invention it is advantageous that the connecting element is made of a bagable material, such as steel. This measure makes it possible to weld the legs to each other in the mounted state, that is, in the second position thereof. This can, for example, take place by spot welding. According to the invention, it is possible that the connecting element is made of stainless steel. In that case it is possible for the connection of the first leg and the second leg to have a thickness of, for example, approximately 1 mm. The free ends of the legs 4 can for instance be designed in a thickness of 3 mm, so that the entire connecting element is relatively stiff and strong.
In order to improve the mounting of the connecting elements according to the invention, it is further possible for the first leg and the second leg to be provided at the second end thereof with a lip, for engaging the legs and displacing the legs of the first position to the second position thereof.
The invention will be further described with reference to the accompanying figures, in which:
Figure 1 schematically shows the mounting of a pipe on an existing balustrade with the aid of the connecting element according to the present invention.
Figures 2, 3 and 4 show stepwise the attachment of the connecting element according to the invention to a first and a second body.
Figure 1 shows the connecting element 1 according to the present invention. Figure 1 also shows a balustrade 2. Only a small part of this balustrade is shown. The balustrade consists of a number of upright bars 3 which are connected at the top thereof to a horizontal tube 4. Parallel to the tube 4 of the balustrade 2, a further tube 5 is shown. At the moment that the balustrade 2 is to be raised, the tube 5 can be placed above the tube 4. The pipes 4 and 5 are then connected to each other with the aid of a plurality of connecting elements 1 according to the present invention. The connection of the tubes 4 and 5 to each other is further indicated in figures 2, 3 and 4.
According to the invention, it is also possible for the two legs on the second body thereof to be provided with fastening means such as, for example, flanges that can be mounted on the second body. This embodiment is not shown in the drawings. In this alternative embodiment, it is for example possible for the two legs to run close to the ends thereof into lips which are transverse to the longitudinal direction of the legs. A bore can for instance be present in these lips for passage of a fastening element such as a bolt or a screw.
Figure 2 again shows a tube 4 with a tube 5 above it. These tubes can be connected to each other by means of the connecting element according to the invention. The connecting element 1 comprises a first leg 10 and a second leg 20. At the top of the tubes 10 and 20 the tubes connect directly to each other. In the upper end of the first leg 10 there is a semicircular 101 '/ 6 3 recess 11. Accordingly, in the first end of the second leg 20 there is a semicircular recess 21. Near the lower end of the first leg 10 there is a second semicircular recess 12. Similarly, a semicircular recess 22 is in the second leg 20. The end of the first leg 10 is formed by a lip 13. The free end of the second leg 20 is formed by a lip 23.
The connecting element 1 can be designed in such a way that the connecting element is made relatively thin at the level of the recesses 11 and 21 and is made relatively heavier at the level of the recesses 12 and 22. When use is made of a stainless steel connecting element, it is possible to give the connecting element a thickness of approximately 1 mm at the location of the recesses 11 and 21. The thickness of the recesses 12 and 22 may be approximately 3 mm. From the position shown in Figure 2, the connecting element can be moved around the tubes 4 and 5 by applying force to the lips 13 and 23. As a result, the connecting element 1 is bent from the position shown in Figure 2 in the direction of the Figure 3 shows the intermediate position. By exerting even more pressure on the lips 13 and 23, the closed position according to Figure 4 is finally reached. Figure 4 shows the case that the legs 10 and 20 are connected to each other with the aid of spot welds 30, 31 and 32. It is of course also possible that the legs 10 and 20 are connected to each other with other fastening elements, such as bolts and nuts. are connected. Moreover, it is possible to make a combination of spot welding and fastening elements such as bolts and nuts.
According to the invention, it is advantageous to move the connecting elements 1 towards each other and to fix them together by means of spot welding. Subsequently, it is possible to improve the attachment of the first to the second leg by making use of elements such as bolts and nuts.

Claims (10)

  1. A connecting element for connecting a first body to a second body, characterized in that the connecting element comprises a first and a second leg, which are connected to each other at a first end, wherein at least one of the legs first recess is provided for receiving at least a portion of the first body therein and wherein the first leg and the second leg at the second end thereof comprise means for attaching the connecting element to the second body and wherein the legs relative to be mutually displaceable from a first position for receiving the first and the second body in the first and the second recesses, respectively, and a second position for clamping the first body and the second body between the legs.
  2. 2. Connecting element as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the means for attaching the connecting element to the second body comprise at least a second recess in at least one of the legs for receiving at least a part in the second recess from the second body.
  3. 3. Connecting element as claimed in claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the first leg is hingedly connected to the second leg.
  4. 4. Connecting element as claimed in claim 1, 2 or 3, characterized in that both the first leg and the second leg comprise a first and a second recess, which recesses connect to each other in the second position of the legs.
  5. Connection element according to claim 4, characterized in that the first and the second recesses are each semi-circular.
  6. 6. Connecting element as claimed in any of the foregoing claims, characterized in that the connecting element is formed from a strip, wherein the first end of the first leg connects directly to the first end of the second leg.
  7. 7. Connecting element as claimed in claim 6, characterized in that the first and the second recesses in the legs are formed by transforming the material of the strip.
  8. A connecting element according to claim 6 or 7, characterized in that the thickness of the strip varies along its length, the connection of the first end of the first leg to the second leg being relatively thin, and wherein the second end of the first leg and the second leg are made relatively thick.
  9. Connection element according to one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the connection element is made of a weldable material, such as steel.
  10. 10. Connecting element as claimed in any of the foregoing claims, characterized in that the first leg and the second leg are provided at the second end thereof with a lip, for engaging the legs and displacing the legs from the first position to the second position thereof. ? «> Ί ···.
