Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a tray for water scalding of flower bulbs, which comprises a compartment structure for receiving the bulbs.
The advantages of water scalding of flowers are described in the Dutch patent application 1009435 of the applicant. One of the greatest advantages of scalding on water is that potting soil is no longer required, as a result of which considerable energy savings can be realized because the potting soil no longer has to be cooled and heated in the greenhouse. By no longer working with potting soil, the flowers remain much cleaner, and the working conditions are more pleasant because the boxes in which the bulbs are received are less heavy. The required labor input is also less when water scalding is used. The cost-saving to be achieved amounts to an average of 0.03 cents per harvested stem.
When using water scalding, less cooling space is also needed, because the bulbs are kept dry for a longer period of time. It is mentioned that up to 50% of cooling space can be saved. Due to the lack of potting soil, savings are also achieved in this respect, namely avoiding the costs of the potting soil, as well as the supply and removal thereof. A further important advantage is that the greenhouse space itself also remains cleaner, while disease symptoms in the bulbs can be combated more easily, while absolutely no damage to the bulb occurs.
In said application a tray is described which comprises a bottom and upright side walls, in which uniformly distributed holding means for the bulbs are arranged on the bottom. These holding means are designed as prickers. The tray just referred to is particularly suitable for scalding with standing water.
The object of the invention is now to provide a tray that can also be used with running water. Scalding with running water seems to offer advantages over scalding and standing water, because more oxygen can be present in the water, the water temperature can be better controlled, the mineral balance more controllable, and the acidity more adjustable.
A tray of the type referred to in the preamble is known from the practice of water scalding. The known tray has, for example, a honeycomb-shaped compartment structure. Other forms of the compartment structure are also conceivable, however. A drawback of the known tray is that different size trays are desirable in order to be able to use the tray with various bulb sizes. Moreover, the placement of the 10 bulbs in the known tray is not particularly stable.
It is an object of the invention to provide a tray which can be used for all sizes of spheres occurring in practice, and which enables a very stable placement of the sphere in the tray. Furthermore, a number of further advantages are sought with the invention, which will be explained below.
The tray according to the invention is characterized in that the wall surfaces of each compartment have at least partly an obliquely directed direction towards each other at the bottom. This guarantees a stable placement of any size of bulbs that occur in practice.
It is desirable that the wall surfaces at the bottom end in uprights delimiting slit-shaped interspaces. This allows the roots on the underside of the 25 bulbs to develop from the compartments of the honeycomb without hindrance.
It is desirable here that the uprights are spaced less than the diameter of the smallest sphere to be received. This supports the aim of the invention to provide a tray that can be used for all sizes of spheres occurring in practice.
It is preferred that the top edge of the slit-shaped interspaces is formed by a sharp cutting edge. This enables a simple detachment of the bulbs after the scalding and from the tray, by cutting off the adhering roots of the bulbs that would impede the removal during removal.
Daartoe is verder voordelig dat de sleufvormige tussenruimtes zich uitstrekken tot in het schuin verlopende ge- 1012283For this purpose it is furthermore advantageous that the slot-shaped interspaces extend into the obliquely extending 1012283

Namely, this produces an oblique arrangement of the sharp cutting edge, which supports the function just discussed.
The invention will now be further elucidated with reference to the drawing, which in Fig. 1 shows a partial top view of a tray according to the invention; and in fig. 2 shows a side view of a honeycomb-shaped compartment of the tray according to the invention.
Like reference numerals used in the figures refer to like parts.
Reference numeral 1 denotes the tray shown in Fig. 1, which, as the figure clearly shows, has a honeycomb-shaped compartment structure. Sections 2 of the 15 honeycomb serve to receive the bulbs for water scalding. The tray according to the invention will be further elucidated with reference to the compartment included in circle A, which is further shown in side view in Fig. 2.
The tray 2 has wall surfaces 3, which, as shown in Fig. 2, have at least partially an inclined course 4 at the bottom. The wall surfaces 3, 4 then terminate at the bottom in uprights 5 which delimit slot-shaped interspaces 6. The uprights 5 are spaced at a distance which is less than the diameter of the smallest sphere to be accommodated in the compartments 2. At the top, the slot-shaped interspaces 6 are bounded by a sharp cutting edge 7, and this sharp cutting edge 7 is preferably located in the obliquely extending part 4 of the wall surfaces 3, 4. At the top side, the wall surfaces 3 are, for instance, provided with slotted holes 8 and upright tees 9 which can be accommodated in such slotted holes 9. The tray 2 can hereby be composed of separate compartments 2 to give any desired dimension to the tray 2, both in length and in width. Of course, the tray 2 can also be made in one piece, such slotted holes and T-pieces being provided only on the outer circumference of the tray 2.
The tray according to the invention is particularly suitable for scalding water in running water, but the application of the tray according to the invention is not limited thereto. The tray can also be used for scalding water in still water, and in ebb and flow systems.
It is furthermore worth noting that the tray according to the invention is preferably made of fully recyclable plastic.
