Abstract

Artificial sandstone is produced in a mould using a mortar comprising pref. a mix. of 40-60 parts of coarse sand and 60-40 parts of fine sand, e.g. river sand, in proportions, mixed with shrink-free cement in the ratio of 1:2 to 3.5, to which a relatively small quantity of water, pref. 1-10 wt.% of water to cement, is added. Colouring may also be added to the resultant mortar. After mixing, the mortar is compressed in a mould during which half the water is removed. The cement is pref. one part Tubag (RTM) cement and 0.5 part C-cement rapid hardening cement. The artificial sandstone produced has a compressive strength pref. > 32 N/mm2.
