Abstract

Each of the two or more milking stalls (8) has a milking unit at one side and an opening in the other by which an animal can walk in and out. This is opened and shut by a control system (10,11) incorporating a monitoring area (I) for the animals still to be milked, and a waiting one (II) for those which have been, while a fence (5) separates these areas. The movable fence (13,14) is situated between this fence and the stalls and operated by the control system, so as to connect each stall and one or the other areas. The stalls can be in a row one after the other in their lengthwise direction, the free end of the movable fence travelling along them on one side, and can be positioned between the entry and exit openings of each stall. Where there is a separation fence parallel to the stall sides containing the openings, the movable fence can travel between the two, forming a thruster clearing the animals out of the intervening space.
