Abstract

[Problem] To provide a wholly aromatic polyester in which the generation of sublimates during polymerization reactions is low and foreign substances are reduced, and a polyester resin composition thereof. [Solution] The problem is solved by a wholly aromatic polyester characterized by comprising, as essential constituent components, the following structural units (I), (II), (III), and (IV), wherein the content of the structural unit (I) with respect to all structural units is 40-75 mol%, the content of the structural unit (II) with respect to all structural units is 0.5-7.5 mol%, the content of the structural unit (III) with respect to all structural units is 8.5-30 mol%, the content of the structural unit (IV) with respect to all structural units is 8.5-30 mol%, the total content of the structural units (I), (II), (III), and (IV) with respect to the total structural units is 100 mol%, and the difference between the content of the structural unit (III) and the content of the structural unit (IV) is 0.150 mol% or less.
