Abstract
To provide a waste gas treatment apparatus and a method for reliably removing mercury in a waste gas from a furnace (1) and supplying activated carbon to the waste gas at an appropriate activated carbon supply rate even if the concentration of mercury in the waste gas is varied. A waste gas treatment apparatus in which a dust collector (4) for dust removal treatment of a mercury- containing waste gas from a furnace (1) is provided on the downstream side of the furnace (1), and an activated carbon supply device (3) that injects activated carbon into a waste gas flow path conducting the waste gas from the furnace (1) to the dust collector (4) is provided, the waste gas treatment apparatus including a mercury concentration meter (5) provided on the downstream side of the dust collector (4) for measuring the concentration of mercury in the waste gas, and a controller (7) that, on the basis of the measurement given by the mercury concentration meter (5) , controls the activated carbon supply rate such that the concentration of mercury in the waste gas on the downstream side of the dust collector (4) is equal to or lower than a set value, while maintaining a predetermined minimum value.
