Abstract

The invention provides a trisphenolmethane having little coloration, a producing method thereof, and its use. The trisphenolmethane is produced by reacting a phenol and an aromatic hydroxyaldehyde in the presence of an acid catalyst under heating, at a temperature of not more than 100?C during the time from the start of the reaction until the reaction conversion reaches 90%, and thereafter at an elevated temperature of from above 100?C to 130?C. In this manner, trisphenolmethanes having a Gardner color scale of not more than 9 (as a 0.5 mass% THF solution) and epoxy resins having little coloration may be obtained.
