Abstract

THE PRESENT INVENTION RELATES TO A METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR REMOVING AND RECOVERING COPPER AS CUPRIC OXIDE FROM A COPPER-CONTAINING ACIDIC WASTE LIQUID CONTAINING A HIGH CONCENTRATION OF CUPRIC IONS, SUCH AS AN ETCHING WASTE LIQUID PRODUCED IN ETCHING OF A COPPER PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD WITH A CUPRIC CHLORIDE ETCHING SOLUTION, OR A WASTE LIQUID PRODUCED UPON RENEWAL OF A PLATING BATH LIQUID IN THE MANUFACTURING OF AN ELECTROLYTIC COPPER FOIL. THE METHOD OF THE PRESENT INVENTION INCLUDES ADDING A COPPER-CONTAINING ACIDIC WASTE LIQUID TO AN ALKALINE SOLUTION WHOSE AMOUNT IS NOT LESS THAN THE NEUTRALIZATION EQUIVALENT WITH RESPECT TO THE COPPER-CONTAINING ACIDIC WASTE LIQUID, AND MIXING THE COPPER-CONTAINING ACIDIC WASTE LIQUID AND THE ALKALINE SOLUTION, THEREBY PRODUCING A SUSPENSION CONTAINING A SOLID MATERIAL WHOSE MAIN COMPONENT IS CUPRIC OXIDE, AND SEPARATING AND RECOVERING THE SOLID MATERIAL WHOSE MAIN COMPONENT IS CUPRIC OXIDE, FROM THE SUSPENSION. THE SOLUTION OF AN ALKALI METAL CARBONATE IS USED AS THE ALKALINE SOLUTION TO WHICH THE COPPER-CONTAINING ACIDIC WASTE LIQUID IS ADDED.
