IN THE DISCLOSED RICE COOKER (100), BEFORE A HEATING UNIT (3) PERFORMS HEATING, A CONTROL UNIT (31) DETECTS A QUANTITY OF RICE IN AN INNER POT (2) BY DRIVING A STIRRING MOTOR (4) TO ROTATE A STIRRING BLADE (5) AND DETECTING A VALUE OF ELECTRIC CURRENT FLOWING THROUGH THE STIRRING MOTOR (4) BY A MOTOR CURRENT DETECTION UNIT (36). IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE DETECTED RICE QUANTITY, THE CONTROL UNIT (31) CONTROLS THE ROTATIONAL SPEED AT WHICH THE STIRRING MOTOR (4) ROTATIONALLY DRIVES THE STIRRING BLADE (5) DURING RICE WASHING OPERATION (37). THIS MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO ADJUST THE ROTATIONAL SPEED OF THE STIRRING BLADE (5) DURING THE RICE WASHING OPERATION (37) TO FIT THE RICE QUANTITY. (FIGURE 1)
