Abstract

METAL CORROSION AND SCALE PROBLEMS IN AN OPEN RECIRCULATING COOLING WATER SYSTEM CAN BE SIMULTANEOUSLY INHIBITED. A CALCIUM CARBONATE DEPOSITION INHIBITOR AND A CALCIUM CARBONATE DISPERSANT ARE ADDED TO THE COOLING WATER AND FINE PARTICLES OF CALCIUM CARBONATE ARE DISPERSED IN THE COOLING WATER SO AS TO FORM AN ANTICORROSION FILM ON A METAL SURFACE. BY PREVIOUSLY PREPARING CALCIUM CARBONATE WHICH CAN ACT ON CORRODED PARTS OF METAL TO EXIST IN COOLING WATER IN THE FORM OF FINE PARTICLES CAPABLE OF BEING DISPERSED, THE QUANTITY OF CALCIUM CARBONATE TO BE SUPPLIED TO THE CORRODED PARTS IS INCREASED, WHEREBY AN ANTICORROSION LAYER OF CALCIUM CARBONATE IS FORMED PRECOCIOUSLY, STABLY, AND RELIABLY. ON THE OTHER HAND, BY INCREASING THE DISPERSIBILITY OF CALCIUM CARBONATE, EXCESS SCALE BUILDUP IS INHIBITED AND SCALE PROBLEMS ARE PREVENTED. TO PRODUCE AND DISPERSE FINE PARTICLES OF CALCIUM CARBONATE, A CALCIUM CARBONATE DEPOSITION INHIBITOR AND A CALCIUM CARBONATE DISPERSANT ARE USED IN COMBINATION, WHEREIN THE CALCIUM CARBONATE DEPOSITION INHIBITOR INHIBITS THE DEPOSITION OF CALCIUM CARBONATE AND THE CALCIUM CARBONATE DISPERSANT PREVENTS THE COARSENING OF CALCIUM CARBONATE CAUSED IN WATER OF WATER QUALITY EXCEEDING THE LIMIT OF DEPOSITION INHIBITION PERFORMANCE OF THE CALCIUM CARBONATE DEPOSITION INHIBITOR BY DISPERSING THE CALCIUM CARBONATE, KEEPING THE PARTICLE SIZE WITHIN A CERTAIN RANGE.
