CO2 WHICH IS CONTAINED IN A LOW CONCENTRATION IN THE EXHAUST GAS EVOLVED DURING THE L-GLUTAMIC ACID FERMENTATION IS CAPTURED IN THE FORM OF ALKALI CARBONATE BY BUBBING IT IN AN AQUEOUS SODA ASH SOLUTION OR AN AQUEOUS SODIUM HYDROXIDE SOLUTION AND THEN INCORPORATED IN L- GLUTAMIC ACID PRODUCTION PROCESS WHEREIN AN ALKALI IS REQUIRED AS THE NEUTRALIZING AGENT, THEREBY NOT ONLY MONOALKALI SALT OF L-GLUTAMIC ACID CAN BE PREPARED BUT ALSO THE FORMED CO2 AS BY-PRODUCT CAN BE RECOVERED IN A HIGH CONCENTRATION SO THAT IT CAN BE UTLIZED AS THE LIQUID CO2 SOURCE.
