Abstract
LIGHT HYDROCARBONS, E.G., METHANE ARE CONVERTED TO SYNTHESIS GAS AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURES AND PRESSURES IN THE PRESENCE OF A PARTICULATE CATALYST, E.G., NI/AI2O3. THE CONVERSION OF FEED TO SYNTHESIS GAS IS PRESERVED BY RAPIDLY COOLING THE REACTION PRODUCTION TO A TEMPERATURE BELOW THAT WHICH FAVORS THE BACK REACTION OF CARBON MONOXIDE AND HYDROGEN TO FORM METHANE.
