Abstract

A NEW SINGIC-STAGE FERMENTATION PROCESS FOR THE COMMERCIAL PRODUCTION OF ETHANOL FROM REFINED SUCROSE, RAW SUGAR, SUGAR CANE JUICE, SUGAR CANE SYRUP, SUCROSE HYDROLYSATES AND INVERT SUGARS HAS BCCN DEVELOPED USING ZYMOMONAS MOBILLIS. THE PROCESS GIVES A 94-98% SUCROSE HYDROLYSIS EFFICIENCY AND A 95-98% ETHANOL CONVERSION EFFICIENCY. WITHIN 24-30 HOURS, 200G/L SUCROSC IS CONVERTED TO PRODUCE 95.5 GIL ETHANOL. REINOCULATION IS CARRIED OUT FROM THE FERMENTED BROTH WITHOUT THE NEED FOR CENTRIFUGATION OR MEMBRANE FILTRATION.
