Abstract

La presente invencion proporciona genes quimericos para utilizar en modular (i.e., mejorar o reducir) biosintesis de celulosa y/o calidad de fibras en una planta productora de fibras tal como plantas de algodon, y a metodos para modular biosintesis de celulosa que emplean los genes quimericos. La invencion ademas proporciona celulas de plantas y plantas que comprenden los genes quimericos de la invencion asi como semillas de dichas plantas que comprenden los genes quimericos de la invencion. La presente invencion tambien proporciona metodos para identificar variaciones alelicas de los genes que codifican proteinas involucradas en la biosintesis de celulosa en una poblacion que comprenden diferentes genotipos o variedades de una especia de planta particular.
