Abstract
A sanitary, flexible cover (10) is wrapped around the top of a flip-top can (12). The cover (10) comprises a round disc (13), a concave rim (14) around the perimeter of the disc, and a flared skirt (15) extending from the concave rim. The cover is formed by molding or pressing. The cover is applied to the can by heat shrinking, gluing, or mechanically tight fitting. The top of the can is protected by the disc (13) and the shoulder of the can is protected by the skirt (15). The concave rim (14) is engaged around a lip (16) of the can to retain the cover, which can be easily removed prior to drinking. In addition, there may be a plurality of these covers (24) connected by links (25).
Description
SANITARY COVER FOR DRINKING CAN. WITH EXTREME TOP UNPLUGABLE
REFERENCE TO RELATED REQUESTS
The benefit of Philippine patent application No. 000-1022, filed on April 24, 2000, is claimed.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
1. Field of the Invention The present invention relates generally to beverage cans with uncovered top end. 2. - The background technique. The beverage cans with top uncovered end are stored or displayed typically, for sale, without any packaging. During the time, pollutants accumulate in their upper ends, and especially around the sinking of the end. These contaminants are mixed with the spill of the drink, coming from the can, and are taken to the digestive system of a consumer who drinks directly from the can. Even when the drinks are poured into a cup, the contaminants in the eyebrow will still be carried into the cup.
OBJECTIVES AND ADVANTAGES OF THE INVENTION
Consequently, there are objectives and advantages of the sanitary and protective cover of the present: a) provide a sanitary cover that seals the head and neck of the can; b) provide a protective cover for aluminum cans, using different materials and their combinations; c) make it easy and cheap to do and apply; d) provide a sanitary cover that eliminates the direct contact of the lips and the mouth of the consumers with the particles dangerous for the health, that reside in the superior part of the can; e) provide a cover material and a combination of materials that is easily flexible, malleable, adhesive and stackable; f) provide a cover material that can be printed; g) provide a cover with a flared skirt to protect the shoulder of the can. Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from a consideration of the drawings and the description that follow.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention provides a solution to the sanitary and hygienic problems encountered by consumers when they drink directly from cans with uncovered top end, by suggesting an article and a method to cover the surface, the neck and down, until the portion of the can that comes into direct contact with the lips of consumers.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Figures 1 to 3 and 1A to 3A. A first embodiment of the sanitary cover of the present is shown in a perspective view in Figures 1 and 1A. It consists of a flexible cover 10 for the upper part 11 of a conventional beverage can 12. The cover 10 consists of a round disc 13, a concave eyebrow 14 around the perimeter of a disc 13, and a flared skirt 15, which extends inside the concave eyebrow 14. The eyebrow 14 is convex when viewed from the inside of the cover 10. The cover 10 can be made of a plastic material, such as polyethylene, polypropylene, nylon, paper, aluminum and other materials and other combinations, present and future, etc. The cover 10 is applied on the end or top of the can by virtue of the combination of technologies in molding, extrusion, capping, wrapping, punching, sealing and adhesion. In Figures 2 and 2A the cover 10 is applied to the can 12. In Figure 3 the concave eye 14 of the cover 10 is tightly engaged around a convex lip 16 of the can 12, to retain the cover 10 in position. The flared skirt 15 is configured to closely follow a tapered shoulder 17 of the can 12, and is long enough to extend at least to a transition 18, between the tapered shoulder 17 and a vertical wall 19 of the can 12. Printable advertising on the cover 10. Consequently, the upper end 11 and the shoulder 17 of the can 12 are protected by the cover 10, against contaminants. The cover 10 of the can 12 can be easily peeled off. Figures 4 and 4A: As shown in Figure 4, the cover 10 can also be made by molding a flat sheet 20, and heat shrinkage is applied on the upper end 11 of the sheet. the can 12. Alternatively, the sheet 20 can be fixed with glue. FIGS. 5 and 5A: As shown in FIG. 5, another method for forming the crown is to press a flat sheet 21 onto the upper end 11 of the can 12, with a press 22. A cavity 23 is formed in the press 22, so as to conform to the upper end 11 of the can 12.
