Abstract

La presente invencion se relaciona generalmente con una planta transgénica que produce frutas, que tiene una secuencia de nucleotidos extraña insertada en la misma, la cual es sustancialmente similar a una porcion del ADNc para lipoxigenasa específico para maduracion de la fruta de la planta. Las plantas transgénicas de acuerdo con la presente invencion producen frutas que tiene características de maduracion modificadas y sorprendentemente superiores, que incluyen una calidad y textura mejoradas, mayor firmeza, una vida de anaquel más prolongada, mejores características de empacado y almacenamiento y características de procesamiento mejoradas. También se proporcionan frutas transgénicas, células vegetales transgénicas; métodos para elaborar plantas transgénicas de la invencion, frutas y células vegetales; métodos para inhibir la produccion de lipoxigenasa en plantas; secuencias de nucleotidos aislados y vectores que comprenden estas secuencias de nucleotidos aislados.
