Abstract

Un implante de disco removible, expandido, medio (22) con forma sustancialmente rectangular en seccion transversal con una altura mínima (H) y una anchura (W) mayor que la altura, que está montado de manera desprendible a una aplicador (52) para insercion en la region anatomica entre dos vértebras adyacentes (16, 18) de las cuales se ha removido una porcion del disco intervertebral. El implante es colocado por medio movimiento anterior-posterior en el espacio del disco a la posicion en la cual tanto la porcion media expandida como las porciones de extremo de menor diámetro (25, 36) del implante vinculan los cuerpos (12, 14) de las vértebras adyacentes y luego es girado para llevar a los lados (34) del implante definiendo la altura del implante a vinculacion con los cuerpos de las vértebras adyacentes. Una traba (24) es entonces asegurada al implante para impedir su rotacion en el caso que las vértebras adyacentes necesiten ser alineadas antes de la fusion, un implante alargado (112) es provisto, el cual es dividido de manera longitudinal en miembros lado con lado (113, 114) movibles uno con relacion a otro y que se inserta en el espacio del disco entre dos vértebras desalineadas (133, 137). Los miembros son provistos con dientes (138) para vincular las vértebras adyacentes y el implante formado por los dos miembros lado con lado es de forma rectangular en seccion transversal, la altura (H6) de la seccion transversal de forma rectangular siendo menor que la anchura (W6) de modo que el implante pueda ser insertado entre las vértebras adyacentes con la dimension de menor altura orientada en la misma direccion que el eje de la columna espinal y la dimension de mayor anchura a aproximadamente ángulo recto con ese eje. Un miembro es entonces movido con relacion al otro desde la primera posicion lado con lado a lo largo del eje longitudinal del implante a una segunda posicion en la cual los miembros están alineados con las vértebras desalineadas, adyacentes respectivas y el implante es girado 90 degree para vincular los dientes a los cuerpos de las vértebras adyacentes. Los dos miembros son entonces llevados de vuelta a la primera posicion lado con lado para llevar las vértebras a alineacion y el implante es girado aproximadamente 90 degree para desvincular los dientes de las vértebras para remocion del espacio del disco.
