Abstract
Un modificador de vidrio sellante que hace que disminuya la reduccion química de PbO, en un vidrio sellante que contiene PbO, a plomo metálico, durante el sellado o la coccion, y que permite que el vidrio sellante se utilicen en combinacion con un vehículo sin compuestos orgánicos volátiles o bajo en compuestos orgánicos que es térmicamente estable a las temperaturas a las que la fribra de vidrio sellante sella juntas las superficies de vidrio, pero que puede reducirse a un estado de oxidacion más bajo cuando se expone a alas condiciones de reaccion. Se le agrega modificador al sistema de vidrio sellante en una cantidad suficiente como para evitar que el PbO sufra una reduccion química al cocer el vidrio sellante en presencia de condiciones reductoras, a una temperatura sufiente como para sellar el vidrio. Los modificadodres que especialmente se prefieren son Bi(NO3)3 5H2O y/o Zn(NO3)26H2O). El modificador puede incorporarse como componente del vidrio sellante. De manera alternativa, el modificador puede disolverse en el vehículo o dispersarse en el mismo.
