Abstract

La presente invencion describe SMDF aislado, ADN aislado que codifica el SMDF, y métodos recombinantes y sintéticos de preparar el SMDF. El SMDF contiene un dominio semejante al EGF de tipo beta, y una secuencia N-terminal que es distinta de todas las neurregulinas reportadas a la fecha. El SMDF, cuando es expresado en un cultivo de células recombinantes, activa la fosforilacion de tirosina del receptor HER2/neu en células de cáncer de seno humano, y exhibe actividad mitogénica sobre células de Schwann. Los análisis de manchado de Northern e hibridacion in situ muestran que el SMDF difiere de otras neurregulinas en queéste es especifico del tejido nervioso, y es muy altamente expresado, en comparacion a otras neurregulinas, en las neuronas motoras y las neuronas sensoriales de la médula espinal humana y de rata.
