Abstract

Se presenta un método para tratar víctimas de edema cerebral, que incluye la inyeccion intravenosa de acetazolamida (A.K.A., DIAMOX??), la cual es un diurético fácilmente disponible y a menudo prescrito. Tal edema, o inflamacion cerebral puede provocarse como resultado de ataques isquémicos especialmente, pero también de inflamacion debida a tumores, cirugías o traumas cerebrales. Se prefiere combinar la terapia de acetazolamida con hiperventilacion de los pulmones, aun incluyendo el uso de oxígeno complementario, para reducir mediante esto la concentracion de dioxido de carbono en la sangre y por lo tanto en el cerebro.
