Abstract

Los polímeros sintéticos y polisacáridos hidrofóbicamente modificados con pesos moleculares de 10,000 a 300,000 sirven como espesadores asociativos en recubrimientos de protección acuoso para nivelar sin afectar negativamente la eficiencia de fluidez o de espesamiento. La hidroxietilcelulosa, hidroxietilalmidón, hidroxipropilguar, etc. modificados hidrofóbicamente pueden ser degradados con peróxido de hidrógeno para disminuir el peso molecular hasta llegar al nivel deseado. Un polisacárido preferido es una hidroxietilcelulosa hidrofóbicamente modificada con un porcentaje por peso de substitución de hidrófobo de 0.2 a 2.0. Un polímero sintético preferido es un alcohol polivinílico modificado hidrofóbicamente con un peso molecular de 10,000 a 50,000.
