Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a recubrimientos a base de agua que tienen un equilibrio aceptable de propiedades tanto durante el almacenamiento del recubrimiento, aplicación y secado. El periodo en el cual las irregularidades en un recubrimiento recientemente aplicado pueden ser reparadas sin resultar en marcas de brocha, se refiere como el tiempo abierto. Los recubrimientos acuosos en general emplean polímeros de alto peso molecular dispersos como aglutinantes. Estos aglutinantes a menudo proporcionan tiempo abiertos cortos cuando el recubrimiento es secado, puesto que las partículas poliméricas dispersadas tienden a ser inmovilizadas rápidamente en la región de borde de un recubrimiento aplicado. Como un resultado, la viscosidad del recubrimiento se incrementa rápidamente, lo cual conduce a una ventana limitada de capacidad de trabajo. La presente invención proporciona aditivos que no son volátiles pero que extenderán el tiempo en que la película es maleable después que es aplicada sin interferir con otros atributos, tales como la resistencia del recubrimiento al congelamiento mientras está en la lata previo a la aplicación.
