Abstract
La presente invención se refiere a un método para al menos uno de conservar la masa corporal magra en un animal, minimizar la pérdida de la masa corporal magra durante la pérdida de peso por un animal, minimizar una reducción en el metabolismo de la energía por un animal, reducir el riesgo de recuperar el peso por un animal después de la pérdida de peso, y aminorar las conductas no deseadas del animal que se asocian con la reducción de la ingesta calórica, el método caracterizado porque comprende: a) alimentar al animal durante un periodo de mantenimiento calórico con una dieta de mantenimiento calórico que contiene calorías que cumplen con los requisitos de energía de mantenimiento del animal; y b) alimentar al animal durante un periodo de reducción calórica con una dieta de reducción calórica que contiene calorías que no cumplen con los requisitos de energía de mantenimiento del animal, en donde el periodo de mantenimiento calórico y el periodo de reducción calórica son cada dos días, cada tres días, cada cuatro días, cada cinco días, cada seis días, semanalmente, cada otra semana, cada dos semanas, o cada tres semanas.
