Abstract
La presente invención se refiere a un método mejorado para reducir gránulos de una mena de hierro en un horno de lecho movible de cuba vertical, que tiene un flujo de gas reductor en contracorriente, caracterizado por introducir como la fuente principal de mena de hierro, una carga de gránulos de mena de hierro horneados, que tienen una porosidad de por lo menos 21.5 por ciento y que produce mediante horneado, gránulos de mena de hierro sin tratar, formados a partir de un concentrado de mena de hierro que tiene un contenido de sílice no mayor de 2.5 por ciento con bentonita o hidrato de cal como un aglutinante, los gránulos sin tratar tienen un contenido de humedad del 7 al 12 por ciento en peso y piedra caliza o dolomita suficiente, finamente molida, para proporcionar una basicidad del gránulo de 0.25 a 2.5, y después de hornearse se cargan en el horno y se mueven verticalmente hacia abajo a través del mismo en flujo de contracorriente, en una corriente de gas reductor, a una temperatura de zona caliente en la escala de 746 a 927°C y luego se remueven en forma reducida desde el horno.
