Abstract
Se proporcionan métodos y sistemas para mejorar la SDB en un paciente que sufre de la misma al suministrar una señal de neuromodulación eléctrica a por lo menos un sitio objetivo que comprende una fibra eferente del nervio glosofaríngeo que inerva los músculos constrictores faríngeos o un músculo estilofaríngeo. Los métodos incluyen además suministrar señales de neuromodulación eléctricas a otros sitios que incluyen una o más combinaciones del asa cervical, el nervio hipogloso, el músculo palatogloso y/o el músculo palatofaríngeo. La señal de neuromodulación eléctrica suministrada a fibras eferentes del nervio glosofaríngeo se puede hacer independiente de una señal sensorial o de entrada detectada que mide el estado neuromuscular de las vías respiratorias del paciente.
