neuromodulação do nervo glossofaríngeo para melhorar a respiração desordenada do sono. a presente invenção refere-se a métodos e sistemas que são fornecidos para melhorar a sdb em um paciente que sofre da mesma, suprindo um sinal elétrico de neuromodulação a pelo menos um sítio alvo compreendendo uma fibra eferente do nervo glossofaríngeo que inerva os músculos constritores da faringe ou o músculo estilofaríngeo. os métodos incluem ainda o suprimento de sinais elétricos de neuromodulação para outros locais, incluindo uma ou mais combinações da alça cervical, o nervo hipoglosso, o músculo palatoglosso, e/ou o músculo palatofaríngeo. o sinal elétrico de neuromodulação suprido às fibras eferentes do nervo glossofaríngeo pode ser produzido independente de um sinal sensorial ou de entrada detectado que mede o estado neuromuscular das vias aéreas do paciente
