Abstract
Se describen diversos sistemas y métodos para monitorear y tratar en forma no invasiva una afección médica de interés a través de la estimulación transcutánea de un nervio objetivo. Por ejemplo, un sujeto puede ser monitoreado para detectar la mejora de una afección médica, en donde la mejora corresponde a una disminución en el nivel de umbral al cual una respuesta sensorial o motora se induce en un sujeto con la estimulación en comparación con un nivel de referencia. Además, la estimulación transcutánea del nervio también puede tratar la afección. Tanto el monitoreo como el tratamiento pueden llevarse a cabo en una forma no invasiva, sustancialmente libre de alguna respuesta dolorosa a través de la estimulación nerviosa eléctrica de un nervio objetivo, en donde la estimulación se envía de un electrodo colocado en una superficie de piel no lampiña. La colocación del electrodo inmoviliza lo suficiente el nervio objetivo, de tal modo que la estimulación es efectiva y puede enviarse en una forma controlada.
