Abstract

Se proporciona un sistema y método para retener las balatas de freno en los frenos de disco, tales como los frenos de disco operados por aire utilizados en vehículos comerciales, y para instalar y retirar las balatas de freno, sin la necesidad de emplear dispositivos de retención de la balata de freno que enciman radialmente las balatas de freno. Una modalidad preferida incluye un elemento de retención, preferentemente un sujetador de acero de resorte, que tiene protuberancias que se orientan en direcciones opuestas para engranar las muescas correspondientes en un borde lateral de la balata de freno y en una superficie orientada de la balata de freno del soporte de la balata de freno. Cuando se instala en una dirección radialmente hacia adentro, la protuberancia lateral del soporte de la balata de freno engrana la muesca del soporte de la balata de freno, y coopera con la protuberancia del lado lateral de la balata de freno para resistir el movimiento de la balata de freno en la dirección radialmente hacia afuera.
