Abstract

Se describe una composición de recubrimiento de conversión inorgánica neutral a alcalina que puede aplicarse directamente a una superficie metálica sin un pre-tratamiento de fosfatización y que proporciona protección a la corrosión significante a la superficie. La composición de recubrimiento de conversión de manera preferible tiene un pH desde aproximadamente 6 a 11 y de manera más preferible de 8 a 10. En una modalidad, la composición de recubrimiento incluye al menos un elemento del grupo IVB de la tabla Periódica y opcionalmente, al menos un elemento del grupo VB de la Tabla Periódica y un polímero orgánico. De manera preferible, la composición de recubrimiento incluye de 9 a 73% en peso, en base a los pesos de recubrimiento de los sólidos secos totales, de al menos un elemento del grupo IVB de la Tabla Periódica. En otra modalidad, la composición de recubrimiento de conversión comprende al menos un elemento del grupo IVB, una fuente de cromo y un polímero orgánico. De manera preferible, la composición de recubrimiento incluye de 9 a 73% en peso en base a los pesos de recubrimiento de los sólidos secos totales, de al menos un elemento del grupo IVB de la Tabla Periódica. La composición de recubrimiento de conversión es un recubrimiento secado en su sitio y produce una morfología única en el secado de una fase inorgánica continua en la cual el polímero orgánico se dispersa como esferas de polímero discretas. La composición de recubrimiento es muy versátil y puede incorporar la adición de una amplia variedad de polímeros orgánicos que pueden agregarse directamente a la composición de recubrimiento de este modo eliminando procesos de recubrimiento de etapas múltiples.
