Abstract
Se describen sistemas y métodos que facilitan detectar un impulso en un circuito de balasto para una lámpara, cuando la lámpara está en una etapa de fin de vida (EOL) o cuando la lámpara experimenta una condición de conducción de arco, tal como puede ocurrir cuando un contacto entre la lámpara y su sujetador se ve comprometido. Luego de detectar el impulso, un microcontrolador puede distinguir entre condiciones EOL y de arco con base en el ancho del impulso detectado y puede iniciar una respuesta apropiada. Por ejemplo, cuando el impulso se debe a un evento de arco, el microcontrolador puede interrumpir la operación de la lámpara por un breve período para reiniciar la lámpara, con el fin de mitigar la condición de arco. Cuando el impulso es provocado por una condición EOL, el microcontrolador puede colocar la lámpara en un modo de pre-calentamiento o de reinicio para evitar la falla de lámpara. En cualquier caso, las respuestas al impulso detectado mitigan la ocurrencia de temperaturas peligrosamente altas en la lámpara que pueden dañar los soportes de la lámpara.
