Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a un procedimiento para producir un polieter, caracterizado porque comprende los pasos de : (a) polimerizar el óxido de isobutileno o una mezcla de óxido de isobutileno y una primera porción de un óxido de alquileno que se selecciona del grupo que consiste de óxido de etileno y óxidos de alquileno mono-substituidos en presencia de un eter de corona, un iniciador que contiene hidrógeno activo y una cantidad de un metal alcalino efectiva para formar un polímero intermedio que tiene por lo menos un grupo terminal hidroxilo o alcoxi; y (b) hacer reaccionar el polímero intermedio y una segunda porción de un óxido de alquileno que se selecciona del grupo que consiste de óxido de etileno y óxido de alquileno mono-substituidos para formar el polieter, en donde el polieter comprende de aproximadamente 10 por cieno moral de óxido de isobutileno y de aproximadamente 90 por ciento a 10 por ciento molar de óxido de alquileno, el polieter tiene por lo menos un grupo terminal hidroxilo, y el grupo terminal hidroxilo es primario y secundario, o terciario, y la relación primario + secundario es mayor de 0.50
