Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a una celda plana de sodio-azufre para almacenamiento eléctrico, la cual incluye: un electrolito sólido que permite la migración de iones de sodio através del mismo; un cátodo substancialmente plano, eléctricamente conductor, permeable al líquido, y poroso, en un lado del electrolito, teniendo el cátodo azufre dentro de sus poros; un ánodo substancialmente plano, eléctricamente conductor, permeable al líquido, y poroso, en el otro lado del electrolito, teniendo el ánodo sodio dentro de sus poros; un recipiente eléctricamente no conductor alrededor del electrolito, del cátodo, y del ánodo, siendo el electrolito sellado al recipiente para impedir cualquier flujo de materia desde el ánodo hasta el cátodo, que no sea através del electrolito; y un elemento que cierre de extremo para cerrar cuando menos un extremo del recipiente.
