Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a un cable de calentamiento eléctrico para proporcionar calor a tuberías, tanques y semejantes, que comprende: primero y segundo medios conductores que se extienden paralelos y separados uno del otro a lo largo de la longitud del cable para transportar la corriente eléctrica y para conducir calor, cada uno de los medios conductores comprende un conductor eléctrico esencialmente plano, alargado; un medio de calentamiento que comprende una pluralidad de pastillas de material de calentamiento de resistencia variable conectadas eléctricamente entre el primero y segundo medios conductores en sitios longitudinalmente separados para producir calor cuando la corriente fluye de los mismos, las pastillas de resistencia variable aumentan considerablemente en resistencia cuando se alcanza un límite de temperatura, a fin de reducir la corriente que fluye a través del medio de calentamiento y controlar la salida del calor del cable; y un medio para impedir el contacto entre el primero y segundo medios conductores a lo largo de la longitud del cable.
