Abstract

Cooling a blast furnace comprises using cooling plates having sturdy body (312) with integrated water-cooling channels (320). Cooling water flow is reduced in thermally loaded furnace areas such that average water flow rate in the direction of the longitudinal axis of channels is less than 1.0 m/s. Whirl device (322) is upstream of channels to create spiral water flow around longitudinal axis of channels. Preferred Features: The average flow speed of the water in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the channels is less than 0.5 m/s
