A chair according to the invention is described below and shown by way of nonlimiting example in the accompanying drawings, in which: - Fig.l is a perspective view of the 5 - chair in the use position ; - Fig.2 shows in a partially cut side view, in broken lines, the backrest folded over the seat; - Figs.3,4 and 5 are perspective views showing three successive folding phases of the chair; 10 - Fig.6 is a side view with a section of the folded chair as in the case of fig.5.

The chair considered comprises a seat 1, a first pair of feet 2 connected by an upper horizontal cross member 3, a second pair of feet 4 also connected by a top horizontal cross member 5 and a backrest 6 constituted for example by a U-shaped element, with or without support panel 6 'and having at its lower part two arms forming levers 7. The seat 1 may preferably, but not necessarily, have two grooves 11 extending in the direction of its depth, while the distance between the two feet of the second pair of feet 4 is less than the distance between the two feet of the first pair of feet 2 to allow a coplanar arrangement between them when they are brought together.

In more detail, the upper cross member 3 of the first pair of · feet 2 is oriented transversely and articulated, by appropriate means 8, on the underside of the seat 1, in the intermediate part of this cross member. In turn, the upper crossmember 5 of the second pair of feet 4 is pivotally mounted by a pivot with vertical axis 9 disposed in the middle of the upper rail 3 of the first pair of feet 2. In this way, the second pair of feet can be moved by rotation around the pivot 9, from a cross position with the first pair of feet 2, until an alignment position and coplanar with the first pair of feet 2.
