과도전류에 대한 콘덴서 보호장치

본 고안은 과도전류 차단기능을 포함하는 콘덴서에 관한 것으로, 특히 과도전류발생시 콘덴서로의 돌입전류를 억제하여 콘덴서의 파괴를 방지하고 과도전류 배제시에는 본래의 콘덴서 특성을 유지하게 되는 과도전류에 대한 콘덴서 보호장치에 관한 것이다.
종래의 과도전류 차단기능을 갖는 탄탈 콘덴서 소자는 제1도에서 도시하고 있는 바와 같이 +, - 리이드(12, 13)와 이들 리이드(12, 13)사이에 배치되는 탄탈 콘덴서 소자(11)로 구성되며, 상기 탄탈 콘덴서 소자(11)와 - 리이드(13)의 접속은 저융점 휴즈(14)로 이루어지도록 구성된다.
따라서 정상 상태에서는 콘덴서 소자(11)에서 전하를 저장하게 되고, 노이즈와 같은 순간과도 전류가 유입되면 상기 저융점 휴즈(14)가 먼저 녹아서 콘덴서 소자(11)가 파손되거나 발화하는 현상을 방지하게 된다. 따라서 일단 휴즈(14)가 끊어지면 그 콘덴서 본체(10) 전부를 폐기하고 새로운 콘덴서를 대체시켜야 하는 문제점이 발생되므로, 회로 보수작업이 필요하고 또한 보수비용도 발생하게 된다.
본 고안은 상기와 같은 기존의 휴즈내장형 콘덴서의 결함을 일소시키기 위한 것으로 상기 휴즈 대신 PTC 저항 소자를 설치하여 과도전류 발생시 자체적으로 대응하도록 함으로써 무보수 상태를 유지할 수 있는 과도전류에 대한 콘덴서 보호장치를 제공하는데 목적이 있다.
이하 첨부한 도면에 기초하여 본 고안을 설명하면 다음과 같다.
제2도는 본 고안 콘덴서 보호장치의 구조도로써, 콘덴서 소자(11)의 한쪽에는 + 리이드(12)를 접속하고, 제2도는 콘덴서 소자(11)의 다른쪽에는 PTCR(Positive Temperature Coefficient Resistor) 칩을 통하여 - 리이드(13)를 접속하여 콘덴서 본체 (10)를 완성한다.
상기 PTCR 칩은 저항소자(15) 양쪽면으로 전극 (16, 17)이 마련되며, 그의 한쪽 전극(16)은 콘덴서 소자(11)의 일측은 전극(19)에, 다른 쪽 전극(17)은 납(18)을 통하여 - 전극(13)에 접속한다.
이와 같이 구성된 본 고안의 작용 및 효과를 설명하면 다음과 같다.
PTCR은 전류의 흐름이나 주위 온도변화에 대하여 자체의 정항값이 급격히 변환하게 된다. 통상 상온에서는 수 내지 수십m의 저항 값을 가지지만 온도나 전류의 큐리점 이상이 되면 그 저항값이 10배 이상으로 증가하게 되는 특성을 가진다.
따라서 정상적인 온도나 전류흐름에서는 저항소자(15)가 거의 순수한 전도체 역할을 하여 콘덴서 소자(11)에는 리이드(12,13) 양단에 걸리는 전하를 충전하고 방전하여 정상적인 기능을 수행하게 되지만, 노이즈를 포함하는 과도전류가 돌입하게 되면 상기 저항 소자(15)의 저항 값이 급격히 증가하여 콘덴서 소자(11)로 공급되는 전류를 차단하게 된다. 그러므로 과도전류에 따른 콘덴서 소자(11)의 파손이나 발화를 방지하게 된다.
이후 돌입 전류가 제거되어 리이드(12, 13) 양단에 흐르는 전류가 안정화되면 상기 PTCR 칩의 저항소자(15)는 본래의 전기적 특성, 즉 낮은 저항 값으로 되돌아가서 리이드(13) 상의 전류를 거의 그대로 콘덴서 소자(11)에 공급하게 된다.
따라서 본 고안은 탄탈 콘덴서에 유입되는 전류 또는 전압에 이상 상태가 발생되면 PTCR 칩이 콘덴서 소자로 공급되는 전류를 자체적으로 흡수하여 콘덴서 소자의 파손을 방지하고, 이상 전류 또는 이상 전압 상태가 해제되면 상기 PTCR 칩은 순수도체로써 작용하여 콘덴서의 전하층방전을 방해하지 않게 되므로, 기존의 휴즈내장형 탄탈 콘덴서의 파손에 따른 회로기판상에서의 부품 교체작업이 필요없게 되는 특유의 효과가 나타나게 된다.

  1. 콘덴서 소자의 양쪽 전극에 리이드가 접속되는 콘덴서에 있어서, 상기 콘덴서 소자의 한쪽 전극과 리이드 사이에 정특성 저항소자를 직렬로 삽입 설치한 것을 특징으로 하는 과도전류에 대한 콘덴서 보호장치.
