Abstract
본 발명은 두 개의 전환 상태 사이의 콘트라스트비를 개선한 표면 또는 전장이 안정된 강유전성 액정(SSFLC) 장치를 제공한다. 이 장치는 스메틱 액정 재료, 예를 들면 스메틱 C의 얇은 층(7), 대표적으로 1 내지 5㎛ 두께로 형성된 액정 셀을 포함하며, 전극(5,6)을 구비한 내부면상에 코팅된 두 개의 글라스 벽(2,3) 사이에 유지된다. 벽(2,3)의 한 측면에는 편광자(8,9)가 배열된다. 장치는 교류 바이어스 전방의 동시 적용 또는 적용하지 않은 단방향 전압 펄스의 적용에 의해 두 개의 쌍안정성 상태 사이에서 전환된다. 최적의 콘트라스트비(CR)를 얻기 위해서, 편광자의 광축은 교차 또는 직교 위치, 예를 들면 +/-20°로 회전되고 셀은 편광자(8,9) 사이에서 회전되며, 정밀한 최적 회전은 재료와 교류 바이어스 저압에 따라 좌우된다.

Claims (9)
- 전극 구조체(5,6)를 수반한 두 개의 셀 벽(2,3) 사이에 절렬된 강유전성(ferroelectric) 액정 재료의 층(7)과 액정 재료를 정렬하도록 처리된 표면으로 형성된 액정 셀과, 셀의 어느 한쪽 측면에 배열된 두 개의 편광자(8,9)를 포함하는, 두 개의 콘트라스트 디스플레이 상태로 전기 전환될 수 있는 강유전성 액정 디스플레이 장치에 있어서, 교차(90°) 상태로부터 멀리 배열된 두 개의 편광자(8,9)와, 최적의 콘트라스트를 얻도록 편광자(8,9) 사이에서 회전되는 셀을 포함하며, 디스플레이의 두 개의 전환 상태가 최적화되도록 정렬이 이뤄지는 것을 특징으로 하는 강유전성 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 전극(5,6)은 한쪽 벽(2)상의 x횡렬 전극(5)과 다른 벽(3)상의 y종렬 전극(6)으로서 배열되어 어드레스 가능한 요소의 x, y 메트릭스를 형성한 것을 특징으로 하는 강유전성 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 어드레스 전압 파형을 전류 구조체(5,6)에 적용하기 위한 드라이버 회로(12,13)를 더 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 강유전성 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 3 항에 있어서, 콘트라스트를 향상시키기 위해 교류 바이어스의 가변량을 적용하는 수단(10,11,12,13)을 더 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 강유전성 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 편광자(8,9) 광축 사이의 각도가 45°보다 크고 135°보다 작은 것을 특징으로 하는 강유전성 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 편광자(8,9) 광축 사이의 각도가 70°보다 크고 110°보다 작은 것을 특징으로 하는 강유전성 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 두 개의 전환된 상태의 분자 방향(D1,D2)이 편광자(8,9) 광축 사이에서 실제로 대칭이 되도록 셀(1)이 회전되는 것을 특징으로 하는 강유전성 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 셀 벽(2,3)은 마팡 폴리이미드로 표면 처리되는 것을 특징으로 하는 강유전성 액정 디스플레이 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 액정 재료는 스메틱 C 재료인 것을 특징으로 하는 강유전성 액정 디스플레이 장치.※ 참고사항 : 최초출원 내용에 의하여 공개하는 것임.
