A compsn. for lubricating a locked-coil rope comprises (a) a mineral lubricating base oil, (b) 15-50 wt.% of a polyolefin oil with an average mol. wt. of 2000-20000, and (c) 5-30 wt.% of a microcrystalline wax. The component (a) is pref. paraffinic lubricating oil with a viscosity of 50-500 cst at 40≰C. The compsn. can also contain lanolin, neutral Ba naphthalenesulphonate and antioxidant. The compsn. is esp. useful for lubricating locked-coil steel wire cables, and has good adhesion properties.
