Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a cellulose surface treatment technology for improving the interfacial properties of a porous carbon-based filler with high heat dissipation, and more specifically, to a cellulose surface treatment method for the surface of porous expanded graphite and a composite having improved thermal conductivity using the same.
Recently, as the demand for eco-friendly energy increases, research for energy storage and efficiency improvement is being conducted. In particular, with the electrification of automobiles, the demand for new materials for heat dissipation as materials for thermal control parts for electric vehicles is increasing. Therefore, maximizing the heat dissipation characteristics of composite materials used to build an efficient thermal management system is attracting attention as an important task. In the field of new heat dissipation materials and parts, most of the material components are composite materials, which are a mixture of high thermal conductivity fillers such as carbon materials or ceramic materials and polymer materials. The reason for using composite materials is that high thermal conductivity inorganic materials have excellent thermal conductivity but no adhesive strength, and polymer materials have excellent adhesive strength but low thermal conductivity.
In the case of generally used coatings for electronic devices or epoxy resins, the thermal conductivity is only about 0.2 to 0.3 W/mK, and even in the case of PE (polyethylene), which is known to have excellent thermal characteristics, it is about 0.5 W/mK. In order to cope with the integration and miniaturization of electronic components, it has limitations due to its extremely low thermal conductivity. In order to improve this, various methods have been attempted, such as improving dispersibility through surface modification of inorganic materials and improving affinity with a polymer matrix, but a more efficient method is required.
An object of the present invention is to improve the dispersibility of a filler and affinity with a polymer matrix, form an efficient heat transfer path, and improve thermal conductivity by chemically introducing cellulose into a porous structure of a carbon-based material.

In the step of oxidizing the expanded graphite, a hydroxyl group is introduced to the surface of the expanded graphite by adding the expanded graphite to a mixture of sulfuric acid and nitric acid and stirring.
The step of stirring the mixed solution to cause an esterification reaction is stirred at a temperature of 80 to 100 ° C. for 4 to 6 hours.
A composite having improved thermal conductivity according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a polymer matrix; and cellulose surface-treated porous expanded graphite dispersed in the polymer matrix.
The polymer includes erythritol.
The content of the cellulose surface-treated porous expanded graphite dispersed in the polymer matrix is 3 to 5 wt%, more preferably the cellulose surface-treated porous expanded graphite dispersed in the polymer matrix is 5 wt%.
According to the present invention, a three-dimensional heat transfer path was formed inside the composite matrix using expanded graphite having a porous structure. The phonon scattering phenomenon was minimized by increasing the interfacial adhesion through hydrogen bonding by the hydroxyl group of the cellulose introduced to the surface and the matrix along the formed heat transfer path. In addition, the improved interfacial adhesion between the matrix and expanded graphite lowered the interfacial thermal resistance, which was shown to improve the thermal conductivity.

The improvement of the affinity between the filler and the matrix using conventional cellulose and the improvement of the composite properties showed only the effect of improving the thermal conductivity at a low level through physical methods. However, in the study of the present invention, by chemically introducing cellulose into the porous structure of the carbon-based material, the dispersibility of the filler and the affinity with the polymer matrix were increased, an efficient heat transfer path was formed, and thermal conductivity was improved. The structure formed by introducing amphiphilic cellulose nanofibers to the surface of a carbon material having a continuous and porous structure forms a continuous heat transfer path in the polymer matrix and improves thermal conductivity through phonon vibration.

* 분석* analyze
Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis were performed in FIG. 2 to confirm the cellulose introduced into the surface of the expanded graphite. After the esterification reaction in FIG. 2 (a), an alkyl group (2892 cm −1 ) of nanocellulose appeared on the surface of the expanded graphite, and the carboxyl group of oxalic acid reacted with the hydroxyl group of the oxidized expanded graphite and the cellulose to produce carbo As the nil group (1715 cm −1 ) was detected, it can be seen that cellulose was successfully introduced. In addition, in the expanded graphite obtained after the esterification reaction, it can be seen in FIG. 2(b) that the oxygen atom content ratio to the carbon atom content increased from 0.018 to 0.12. In the case of Raman spectroscopy, as the ID/IG ratio representing the degree of defect on the surface of the carbon-based filler increased from 0.15 to 0.18 after the introduction of cellulose, it can be seen that the defect on the surface increased due to the introduction of cellulose, and the alkyl group of cellulose It can be seen that the vibration (1080, 2900 cm -1 ) due to is successfully introduced as it is detected. In the case of thermogravimetric analysis, the filler introduced with cellulose on the surface of expanded graphite began to decrease in mass from 280 ° C., and was reduced by more than 19 wt% compared to general expanded graphite.
In FIG. 3, images of general expanded graphite and expanded graphite having cellulose introduced into the surface were photographed through a scanning electron microscope. In Figure 3 (a), porous expanded graphite having a diameter of 800 μm can be confirmed. It can be seen in Figures 3 (b, c, d) that linear cellulose is well introduced to the surface of the expanded graphite after esterification.
In FIG. 4, the dispersibility of expanded graphite in water before and after cellulose surface treatment was confirmed. In the case of general expanded graphite, while layer separation occurs in water, it can be seen that the dispersibility greatly increases after oxidation and introduction of cellulose.
5 is a photograph taken using a scanning electron microscope of a cross section of an erythritol/expanded graphite composite to confirm dispersibility before and after introduction of cellulose in a polymer erythritol matrix. In the case of general expanded graphite, many voids occur inside the composite, but expanded graphite with cellulose has improved dispersibility due to greatly increased interfacial adhesion through hydrogen bonding between cellulose on the surface of the filler and hydroxyl groups in the erythritol matrix. can
Analysis of thermal conductivity characteristics
In order to check the thermal conductivity of the composite in the vertical direction due to the expanded graphite in which cellulose was introduced, the material was used as a filler to prepare an erythritol composite, and the thermal conductivity was measured using a laser flash analysis method at room temperature (25 ° C), and the result is shown in Table 1 below. As a result of the measured thermal conductivity in the vertical direction, it was confirmed that high thermal conductivity was exhibited at 3 to 5 wt%, and preferably, thermal conductivity corresponding to 2.547 was exhibited at a filler loading of 5 wt%. In the case of a polymer heat dissipation composite, it is important to achieve high thermal conductivity with a small amount of filler because the inherent physical properties of the polymer matrix generally decrease as the amount of filler increases. Regarding the case of 6 wt%, since EG is generally very bulky, loading in excess of 5 wt% has a problem in that the loading itself is difficult and the physical properties of the composite are greatly reduced. In the range of more than 5 wt%, the deterioration of the physical properties of the composite (mechanical properties, latent heat, etc.) is greater than the benefit obtained from the increase in thermal conductivity, so a loading of 3-5 wt% is preferable.
In the present invention, a three-dimensional heat transfer path was formed inside the composite matrix using expanded graphite having a porous structure.
