Abstract

An apparatus and a method for changing a steering direction of a wheel excavator are provided to enable an operator to drive a wheel in an opposite steering direction by using a directional control valve when the operator intends to change the steering direction. A driver operates an operational switch(S100). A direction control valve is driven according to the operation selection of the operational switch, so that a direction of supplying a hydraulic fluid to a steering cylinder from a steering valve(S200). A steering handle is driven after the operation of the direction control valve(S300). The hydraulic fluid is supplied to the steering cylinder through the direction control valve according to the rotation of the steering handle(S400). The steering cylinder is driven according to the direction of the supplied hydraulic fluid to make the rotation direction of the steering handle in opposition to the steering direction of the excavator, such that the steering direction of the steering handle is identical to the forwarding direction of the excavator regardless of the position of a front attachment.
