Abstract

본 발명은 시청각 정보 스트림 내에 삽입된 제2 광고가 디스플레이 상에 나타나는 것을 사용자가 방지할 때, 사용자가 상기 제2 광고와 등가인 제1 광고를 볼수 밖에 없도록 하는 방법에 관한 것이다. 광고는 상업 광고일 수 있다. 상기 방지는 광고를 스킵하거나 다른 채널로 전환함으로써 이루어질 수 있다. 또한, 본 발명은 사용자가 광고를 보았는지 스킵했는지의 여부를 검출할 수 있는 장치에 관한 것이다. 이 장치는 스킵된 광고와 등가인 제2 광고를 디스플레이할 수 있다.

등가의 광고를 디스플레이하기 위한 방법 및 장치{METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DISPLAYING EQUIVALENT ANNOUNCEMENTS}
이와 같은 방법의 한 실시예가 WO 00/01149호에 개시되어 있다.
많은 콘텐트 제공자들에 의해 전송되는 바와 같이, 종종 다양한 짧은 방송들이 시청각 정보와 함께 전송된다. 영화, 스포츠 이벤트 또는 드라마 시리즈와 같은 원래의 콘텐트는 상이한 성격의 하나 이상의 상업 광고나 짧은 광고에 의해 종종 인터럽트된다. 사용자는 이와 같은 것을 종종 귀찮은 것으로 경험한다. 따라서 사용자는 이와 같은 방송이 디스플레이되는 것을 방지하도록 여러가지를 할 것이다. 미국특허 US 5,692,093호는 기록된 콘텐트를 재생할 때 상업 광고가 디스플레이되는 것을 방지하기 위한 장치를 기술하고 있다. 이것은 기록된 콘텐트를 갖는 테이프를 상업 광고가 디스플레이되는 시점에서 고속 전진 감기(fast forward winding)를 함으로써 이루어진다.
그러나, 콘텐트 제공자는 자신의 수입을, 사용자들에게 상업 광고를 디스플레이하는 것에, 전적으로는 아닐지라도 상당히 의존한다. 결과적으로, 상업 광고가 사용자들에게 가능한 한 자주 디스플레이되는 것을 보장하는 것이 콘텐트 제공자에게는 대단히 중요하다.
WO 00/01149호는 사용자가 이들 상업 광고를 고속 탐색할 때 대안적인 상업 광고가 디스플레이되는 것을 제안하고 있다. 이 대안적인 상업 광고는 하나 이상의 스킵된 상업 광고와 등가의 콘텐트를 가진다. 하드디스크 시스템과 같이 정보가 랜덤하게 액세스될 수 있는 매체 상에 콘텐트가 누적해서 저장되기 때문에, 상업 광고와 같은 주어진 콘텐트를 통해 고속 탐색하거나 테이프를 감는 것이 가능하다. 이것은 콘텐트의 디스플레이 동안에 상업 광고들이 스킵될 때 대안적인 등가의 상업 광고를 디스플레이할 여유 시간이 없다는 것을 의미한다.
본 발명은 시청각 정보 스트림 내에 삽입된 제1 광고가 디스플레이 스크린상에 디스플레이되는 것이 방지되면, 제1 광고와 등가의 제2 광고를 디스플레이하는 방법에 관한 것이다.
본 발명은 또한, 시청각 정보 스트림에 삽입된 제1 광고가 디스플레이 스크린상에 디스플레이되는 것이 방지되었는지의 여부를 검출하기 위한 수단을 포함하는 장치에 관한 것으로, 상기 장치는 제1 광고가 디스플레이되는 것이 방지되었다면 제1 광고와 등가인 제2 광고를 디스플레이하기 위한 수단을 더 포함한다.

본 발명의 목적은 적어도 하나의 생략된 방송의 현재까지의 요부(essence)를 사용자들에게 알려주는 것이다. 이 목적은 본 발명의 방법에 의해 달성되며, 본발명의 방법은, 제1 광고가 삽입되어 있지 않은 시청각 정보 스트림의 제1 부분의 디스플레이 동안에 제2 광고가 디스플레이되는 것을 특징으로 한다. 여기서, 상기 제1 부분은 상기 제1 광고가 삽입된 시청각 정보 스트림의 제2 부분 이후에 시간순(chronologically)으로 디스플레이된다.
이 방법은 사용자가 콘텐트의 나머지 부분을 보기를 원한다면 광고를 디스플레이 스크린 상에 디스플레이할 수 밖에 없는 이점이 있다.
본 발명에 따른 방법의 한 실시예는 제2 광고는 디스플레이 스크린의 제1 부분에 디스플레이되고 시청각 정보 스트림의 제1 부분은 디스플레이 스크린의 제2 부분에 디스플레이되는 것을 특징으로 한다.
이 실시예는 사용자가 디스플레이된 시청각 정보를 볼 때 광고에 의해 방해받지 않는다는 이점이 있다.
본 발명에 따른 방법의 다른 실시예는, 제2 광고가 디스플레이 스크린의 적어도 일부의 투명한 배경 상에 디스플레이되는 것을 특징으로 한다.
이 실시예는 사용자가 디스플레이된 시청각 정보를 시청하는 때에 광고에 의해 방해받기 때문에 광고에 주목할 수 밖에 없다는 이점을 가진다.
본 발명에 따른 장치는 이 장치가 제1 광고가 삽입되어 있지 않은 시청각 정보 스트림의 제1 부분의 디스플레이 동안에 제2 광고를 디스플레이하도록 적합하게 되어 있는 것을 특징으로 한다. 여기서, 상기 제1 부분은 상기 제1 광고가 삽입되어 있는 시청각 정보 스트림의 제2 부분 이후에 시간순으로 디스플레이된다.
이 장치는 사용자가 콘텐트의 나머지 부분을 보기를 원한다면 디스플레이 스크린 상에 광고를 디스플레이할 수 밖에 없다는 이점이 있다.
본 발명의 이들 및 다른 특징들이 실시예들을 참조하면 명료해질 것이다.

조작 패널(110)을 통해 디스플레이 장치(120)의 디스플레이 스크린(121) 상에 시청각 정보 스트림(210)을 디스플레이하도록 사용자가 시스템(100)에게 지시할 때, 처리 유닛(102)는 시청각 정보 스트림(210) 내의 워터마크와 같은 마킹이나 또는 동반 정보 스트림(220) 내의 마킹을 통해, 예를 들어, 영화 또는 상업 광고가 디스플레이되고 있는지의 여부를 검출한다.
이런 식으로, 처리 유닛(102)은, 전체 상업 광고가 모두 디스플레이되었는지의 여부 또는 가속된 방식으로 디스플레이되었는지의 여부, 또는 시청각 정보 스트림의 디스플레이시에 스킵되었는지의 여부를 검출할 수 있다. 상업 광고는 장치(103)에 주어진 고속 전진 명령(fast forward command)을 이용하여 공지된 방법으로 가속되어 디스플레이될 수도 있다. 상업 광고는, 하드디스크와 같은 랜덤 액세스 메모리 내에 시청각 정보 스트림이 저장될 때 스킵될 수 있다.

도 3b는 시청각 정보 스트림을 디스플레이하는 디스플레이 장치(120)(도 1)의 디스플레이 스크린(121)을 도시한다. 게다가, 상업 광고를 포함하는 텍스트(311)을 포함하는 바(312)가 디스플레이 스크린(121)의 위쪽 부분에 디스플레이된다. 텍스트(311)는 본 발명의 도시된 실시예에서 정적으로 디스플레이될 수도 있으나 다른 방법으로서 공지된 티커 바(ticker bar)와 같이 텍스트(311)를 동적으로 디스플레이하는 것도 가능하다.
도 3c는 시청각 정보 스트림을 디스플레이하는 디스플레이 장치(120)(도 1)의 디스플레이 스크린(121)을 도시한다. 게다가, 텍스트(321) 형태의 상업 광고가 디스플레이 스크린(121)의 반쪽 면상에 디스플레이된다. 디스플레이의 반쪽면에 텍스트를 디스플레이하고 나머지 반쪽면에 시청각 정보 스트림을 디스플레이하는 방법은 공지되어 있으며 예로서 로얄 필립스 일렉트로닉스 엔.브이(Royal Philiips Electronics N.V)의 매치라인 텔레비젼(Matchline television)에서 이용된다.
앞서 기술된 실시예들에서 텍스트로서의 대안적인 상업 광고가 제공된다. 다른 실시예들에서, 광고는 텍스트와 결합하여, 이미지, 픽토그램 또는 이들의 조합으로 된 형태로 제공된다. 역시 또 다른 실시예에서, 대안적인 광고는 예를 들어, 매크로미디어사의 플래쉬 포멧으로 된 시청각 에니메이션의 형태로 제공된다.
상업 광고가 디스플레이 장치(120)(도 1)의 디스플레이 스크린(121)(도 1) 상에 디스플레이되었는지 또는 사용자가 이것을 방지하였는지를 검출하기 위해, 수개의 애플리케이션들이 이용될 수 있다. 예를 들어, 이들 애플리케이션들은 입력채널(130)(도 1)을 통해 장치(101)(도 1)에 의해 수신되는 시청각 정보 스트림과 함께 전송될 수 있다. 본 발명의 한 실시예에서, 시청각 정보는 DVB 표준에 따라 전송되며, 이들 애플리케이션들은 MHP 표준에 따라 이들과 함꼐 전송될 수 있다. 본 발명의 다른 실시예에서, 이들 애플리케이션들은 제2 메모리(104)(도 1)에 저장되며, 이 메모리는 본 실시예에서 비휘발성 메모리이다.
게다가, 도 3에 도시된 대안적인 상업 광고는 MHP 표준에 따라 시청각 정보스트림과 함께 전송될 수도 있다. 이것은 화제의 상업 광고가 항상 사용자에게 보여진다는 이점을 가진다. 제1 상업 광고가 디스플레이되는 것이 방지될 때 대안적인 상업 광고가 장치(101)(도 1)에 전송될 수 있다. 본 발명의 다른 실시예에서, 대안적인 상업 광고는 장치(101)(도 1)에 이미 전송되어 제2 메모리(104)(도 1)에 저장된다.
현재의 MHP 표준은 사용자가 다른 채널을 선택할 때 애플리케이션이 인터럽트되거나 단절(cut off)되는 문제점이 있다. 예를 들어, 사용자가 상업 광고를 보았는지 아닌지를 검출해야하는 애플리케이션은 사용자가 다른 채널을 선택함으로 인해 단절된다. 따라서 사용자는 다른 채널 상에서 전송된 시청각 정보 스트림과 함께 전송된 새로운 애플리케이션을 시작할 것이다.
본 발명이 MHP 표준에 의해 구현되고 콘텐트 제공자가 전송된 광고방송들의 최적의 범위를 확신한다면, 서로 다른 콘텐트 제공자들간의 협동이 중요하다. 이런 식으로, 소정 채널에서 전송된 애플리케이션들은 사용자가 다른 채널로 전환할 때 단절되지 않도록 배열될 수 있다.
요약하면, 본 발명은 사용자가 시청각 정보 스트림 내에 삽입된 제2 광고가 디스플레이 상에 보여지는 것을 방지할 때 사용자가 제1 광고를 볼수 밖에 없도록 하는 방법에 관한 것이다. 여기서, 제1 광고와 제2 광고는 등가이다. 광고는 상업 광고일 수도 있다. 이러한 방지는 광고를 스킵함으로써 또는 다른 채널로 전환함으로써 이루어질 수 있다. 본 발명은 또한 사용자가 광고를 보았는지 또는 광고를 스킵했는지의 여부를 검출할 수 있는 장치에 관한 것이다. 이 장치는 또한 스킵된 광고와 등가의 제2 광고를 디스플레이할 수 있다.

Claims (10)

  1. 시청각 정보 스트림(210) 내에 삽입된 제1 광고(212)가 디스플레이 스크린(121) 상에 디스플레이되는 것이 방지되면, 상기 제1 광고(212)와 등가인 제2 광고(301)를 디스플레이하는 방법으로서, 상기 제2 광고(301)는 상기 제1 광고(212)가 삽입되어 있지 않은 시청각 정보 스트림(210)의 제1 부분의 디스플레이 동안 디스플레이되고, 상기 제1 부분은 상기 제1 광고(212)가 삽입되어 있는 시청각 정보 스트림(210)의 제2 부분 이후에 시간순으로 디스플레이되는 것을 특징으로 하는, 디스플레이 방법.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제2 광고(321)는 상기 디스플레이 스크린(121)의 제1 부분 상에 디스플레이되고 상기 시청각 정보 스트림의 상기 제1 부분은 상기 디스플레이 스크린(121)의 제2 부분 상에 디스플레이되는 것을 특징으로 하는, 디스플레이 방법.
  3. 제2항에 있어서, 상기 디스플레이 스크린의 상기 제1 부분과 상기 디스플레이 스크린의 상기 제2 부분은 상보적(complementary)인 것을 특징으로 하는, 디스플레이 방법.
  4. 제2항에 있어서, 상기 디스플레이 스크린의 상기 제1 부분은 상기 디스플레이 스크린(121)의 가장자리를 따르는 바(bar, 312)인 것을 특징으로 하는, 디스플레이 방법.
  5. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제2 광고(301)는 상기 디스플레이 스크린(121)의 적어도 일부의 투명한 배경 상에 디스플레이되는 것을 특징으로 하는, 디스플레이 방법.
  6. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제2 광고는 상기 시청각 정보 스트림(210)에 결합된 데이타 스트림에 삽입되는 것을 특징으로 하는, 디스플레이 방법.
  7. 제6항에 있어서, 상기 데이타 스트림은 멀티미디어 홈 플랫폼(Multimedia Home Platform) 표준에 따라 적합하게 되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는, 디스플레이 방법.
  8. 시청각 정보 스트림(210) 내에 삽입된 제1 광고(212)가 디스플레이 스크린(121) 상에 디스플레이되는 것이 방지되었는지의 여부를 검출하기 위한 수단을 포함하는 장치(101)로서, 상기 장치는 상기 제1 광고(212)가 디스플레이되는 것이 방지되었음을 검출하면 상기 제1 광고(212)와 등가인 제2 광고(301)를 디스플레이 스크린(121) 상에 디스플레이하기 위한 수단을 더 포함하고, 상기 장치는 상기 제1 광고(212)가 삽입되어 있지 않은 시청각 정보 스트림(210)의 제1 부분의 디스플레이 동안에 제2 광고(301)를 디스플레이하도록 적합하게 되어 있고, 상기 제1 부분은 상기 제1 광고(212)가 삽입되어 있는 시청각 정보 스트림(210)의 제2 부분 이후에 시간순으로 디스플레이되는 것을 특징으로 하는, 장치.
