Abstract

디지털 TV의 표준으로 규정된 ATSC의 PSIP에 속하는 테이블들 중 VCT에 관한 것으로서, 특히 송신측에서는 비액티브 채널을 구분할 수 있는 식별 정보를 VCT에 포함시켜 송신함으로써, DTV 수신기는 VCT만 파싱하고도 액티브 채널과 비액티브 채널을 구분할 수 있으므로 빠른 채널 전환을 할 수 있다. 또한, 비액티브 채널은 채널 업,다운 키에 의한 채널 절환시 스킵될 수 있으므로 시청자는 방송되지 않는 블랙 화면을 보지않고 채널 서핑(surfing)을 할 수 있다.

Description

가상 채널 테이블 데이터 구조 및 부가 정보 송수신 방법{Data architecture of VCT and method for transmit/receiving service information}
본 발명은 디지털 TV의 표준으로 규정된 ATSC(Advanced Television Systems Committee)의 PSIP(Program and System Information Protocol)에 관한 것으로서, 특히 가상 채널 테이블(VCT)를 파싱하여 현재 방송되는 액티브 채널과 현재 방송되지 않는 비액티브 채널을 구분할 수 있도록 하는 VCT 데이터 구조 및 부가 정보 송수신 방법에 관한 것이다.
일반적으로, EPG(Electronic Program Guide)와 SI(System Information)을 하나로 정의해 놓은 것이 PSIP이다. 상기 PSIP는 지상파 및 케이블 디지털 방송을 위한 ATSC의 규격(standard)으로서, MPEG-2(Moving Picture Experts Group ; ISO/IEC 13818-1 시스템)의 방법으로 엔코딩된 메시지들을 파싱(parsing)하여 프로그램에 관한 다양한 정보를 제공하기 위해 정의해 놓은 것이다(1997 DEC. document A/65).
즉, 상기 PSIP는 MPEG-2 비디오와 AC-3 오디오 포맷으로 만들어진 A/V 데이터를 송수신하고, 각 방송국의 채널들에 대한 정보 및 채널의 각 프로그램에 대한 정보 등을 전송할 수 있도록 여러 테이블들로 구성되어 있다. 그리고, 상기 PSIP는 채널을 선택하여 원하는 방송의 A/V 서비스를 하는 주 기능과 방송 프로그램에 대한 EPG 즉, 방송 안내 서비스를 하는 부가 기능을 지원할 수 있다.
이때, 채널 선택을 위한 채널 정보와 A/V의 수신을 위한 패킷 인식 번호(PID)등의 정보는 가상 채널 테이블(Virtual Channel Table ; VCT), 각 채널의 방송 프로그램들의 EPG 정보들은 EIT(Event Information Table)를 통하여 각각 전송되어진다. 이밖에도 PSIP에는 시간 정보를 위한 STT(System Time Table), 프로그램 등급을 위한 지역 및 심의 기관등에 대한 정보를 전송하기 위한 RRT(Rating Region Table), 채널 및 방송 프로그램에 대한 부가 설명을 위한 ETT(Extended Text Table), 그리고 이와 같은 각 테이블들의 버전 및 PID 관리를 위한 MGT(Master Guide Table)등이 있다. 이들 테이블은 섹션이라 불리는 데이터 구조에 의해 전송된다.
즉, 상기된 테이블들은 모두 섹션이라는 기본 단위를 가지며 하나 이상의 섹션들이 조합되어 하나의 테이블을 구성하게 된다.
이때, VCT는 256개의 섹션으로 분리될 수 있다. 그리고, 하나의 섹션은 여러개의 가상 채널 정보를 실을 수 있으나, 하나의 가상 채널에 대한 정보는 두 개 이상의 섹션으로 나누지 않는다.
도 1은 A/65에 기술된 일반적인 지상파용 VCT의 비트스트림 신택스(syntax)를 나타내고 있다. 즉, 기본적인 VCT에는 트랜스포트 스트림 ID, 채널 번호(메이저, 마이너), 숏 채널 이름, 캐리어 주파수, 프로그램 번호 등이 있고, 추가 정보는 VCT 서술자에 들어있다.
도 1을 보면, VCT는 0xC8의 테이블 식별자(table_id)를 가지며, VCT에 대한 PID는 0x1FFB이다. version_number는 VCT의 버전값을 나타내고, section_number는 이 섹션의 번호를, last_section_number는 완전한 VCT의 마지막 섹션의 번호를 나타내며, num_channels_in_section은 상기 VCT 섹션내에 존재하는 전체 가상 채널의 개수를 지정한다.
그리고, 'for' 루프의 반복문 내에 있는 short_name은 가상 채널 이름을 나타내고, major_channel_number은 상기 반복문 안에서 정의되는 가상 채널과 관련된 '메이저' 채널 번호를 나타낸다. 각각의 가상 채널 번호는 메이저와 마이너 채널 번호에 연결되어 있어야 하며, 메이저, 마이너 채널 번호는 해당 가상 채널에 대한 사용자 참조 번호로 작용한다.
program_number는 MPEG-2 PAT(Program Association Table)와 PMT(Program Map Table)가 정의되어 있는 가상 채널을 연결하기 위해 나타내며, 상기 PAT/PMT안에 있는 프로그램 번호와 일치한다. 여기서, PAT는 각 프로그램 번호마다 그 프로그램의 구성 요소를 기술하는데, PMT를 전송하는 트랜스포트 패킷의 PID를 가리킨다. 상기 PMT는 프로그램 식별 번호와 프로그램을 구성하는 비디오, 오디오 등의 개별 비트열이 전송되고 있는 트랜스포트 패킷의 PID 리스트와 부속 정보를 기술하고 있다.
source_id는 해당 가상 채널에 연결된 프로그램 소스를 나타낸다. 여기서, 소스란 영상, 텍스트, 데이터 또는 음향과 같은 하나의 특정 소스를 말한다. source_id값은 VCT를 전송하는 트랜스포트 스트림 내에서는 유일한 값을 가진다. descriptor_length는 해당 가상 채널의 서술자의 전체 길이를 나타내고, additional_descriptor_length는 수반되는 모든 VCT 서술자의 전체 길이를 나타낸다.
즉, 상기 VCT는 'for' 루프로 된 반복문을 통해서 각각의 가상 채널들의 데이터를 운반한다.
도 2는 방송국에서 4개의 가상 채널들로 스케쥴 방송을 하는 예를 보인 도면이다.
즉, 어떤 방송국에서 51-1,51-2,51-3,51-8번의 4 가상 채널들을 통해 도 2와 같은 스케쥴로 방송을 하고, VCT가 1 섹션으로 구성되어 전송된다고 가정하자.
현재 시간이 20:15분이면 STT에는 현재 시간이 운반된다.
현재 시간 20:15분에 방송하고 있는 채널들은 51-1,51-3이다. 이때, 51-1,51-3을 액티브 채널이라고 정의하자.
한편, 51-2는 현재 시간에는 방송하지 않고 있지만 0:00부터 방송 계획되어 있고, 51-8 역시 다음날 06:00부터 방송 계획되어 있는 채널이다. 이와 같이 현재 시간에는 방송되지 않지만 미래에 방송할 예정인 채널을 비액티브 채널(inactive channel)이라고 정의한다.
결국 모든 채널들은 어떤 시간대를 기준으로 할 때 생겼다 없어졌다할 수 있다.
이때, PSIP 규격에 의하면 VCT에는 액티브 채널은 반드시 포함시켜야 하며(강제 규정 사항), 비액티브 채널들도 EPG 서비스를 위해 포함시킬 수 있다(강제 조항이 아니고 방송국 권고 사항)라고 되어 있다.
따라서, 현재 시간 20:15분에 VCT안에는 51-1,2,3,8번 채널의 정보들이 포함되어 전송될 수 있으며, DTV 수신기는 이러한 VCT를 받아 채널 선택 정보를 시청자에게 제공한다.
그러나, 상기 도 1에 도시된 A/65의 VCT 신택스에 의하면, 상기 DTV 수신기는 VCT를 해석(parsing)하여 액티브 채널(예, 51-1,51-3)과 비액티브 채널(예, 51-2,51-8)을 구분할 수 없다.
따라서, 시청자는 EPG 서비스를 위해 방송국으로부터 함께 보내지는 비액티브 채널 정보로 인하여 블랙 화면(예, 방송이 되지 않아 검은 OSD 위에 '서비스 안됨'라는 글자가 디스플레이됨.)을 볼 수밖에 없다. 이는 채널 업,다운키로 시청자가 조작을 할 때, 51-1 다음에 채널을 다음으로 넘기면 51-2에서는 비액티브 채널이므로 A/V수신이 안되는 검은 화면을 보아야함을 의미한다.
이는 디지털 방송이 본격화되고 많은 가상 채널들이 방송되는 시점에서는 시청자에게 매우 심각한 불편을 줄 수 있다.
본 발명은 상기와 같은 문제점을 해결하기 위한 것으로서, 본 발명의 목적은 VCT 비트스트림 신택스에 비액티브 채널을 구분할 수 있는 식별 정보를 포함시킴으로써, DTV 수신기가 VCT를 파싱함에 의해 액티브 채널과 비액티브 채널을 구분할 수 있도록 하는 VCT 데이터 구조 및 부가 정보 송수신 방법을 제공함에 있다.

상기와 같은 목적을 달성하기 위한 본 발명에 따른 VCT 데이터 구조는, 상기 VCT의 비트스트림 신택스에 액티브 채널과 비액티브 채널을 구분할 수 있는 식별 정보가 포함되는 것을 특징으로 한다.
상기 식별 정보는 상기 VCT의 program_number 필드의 값을 '0'으로 하여 비액티브 채널임을 표시하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
상기 식별 정보는 상기 VCT의 service_location_descriptor의 number_elements 필드의 값을 '0'으로 하여 비액티브 채널임을 표시하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
상기 식별 정보는 비액티브 채널인 경우 상기 VCT의 service_location_descriptor를 보내지 않는 것을 특징으로 한다.
상기 식별 정보는 상기 VCT의 미사용 필드의 적어도 한 비트 이상을 할당하여 비액티브 채널임을 표시하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
본 발명에 따른 부가정보 송수신 방법은, VCT의 비트스트림 신택스에 액티브 채널과 비액티브 채널을 구분할 수 있는 식별 정보를 포함시켜 전송하는 송신 단계와, 전송되는 VCT를 파싱한 후 상기 VCT에 정의된 식별 정보로부터 현재 수신되는 채널이 액티브 채널인지 비액티브 채널인지를 판단하는 수신 단계를 포함하여 이루어지는 것을 특징으로 한다.
본 발명은 PSIP 규격에서 액티브 채널과 비액티브 채널을 구분할 수 있는 식별 정보를 VCT의 한 필드로 신택스에 부가함으로써, 현재 방송중인 채널만을 사용자에게 빠르게 보여줄 수 있도록 하는데 있다.
본 발명의 다른 목적, 특징 및 잇점들은 첨부한 도면을 참조한 실시예들의 상세한 설명을 통해 명백해질 것이다.
이하, 본 발명의 바람직한 실시예를 첨부도면을 참조하여 상세히 설명한다.
본 발명은 DTV 수신기가 VCT를 파싱하여 액티브 채널과 비액티브 채널을 구분할 수 있도록 하기 위해서 VCT의 비트스트림 신택스를 수정한다. 즉, 일 예로, 51-2,51-8은 현재는 방송을 하지 않지만 미래에 방송할 채널이라는 것을 DTV 수신기가 알 수 있게 한다. 본 발명은 실시예로, VCT 비트스트림 신택스 내의 program_number 필드, service_location_descriptor, 및 미사용 필드를 비액티브 채널을 인식할 수 있는 식별 정보로 이용한다.
도 3은 이러한 본 발명에 따른 지상파용 VCT의 비트스트림 신택스(syntax)로서, 비액티브 채널인 경우 program_number 필드의 값을 '0'으로 설정한다. 그리고, service_location_descriptor의 오디오, 비디오가 현재 없으므로 number_elements 필드의 값을 '0'으로 하거나 아니면, 비액티브 채널인 경우 service_location_descriptor를 보내지 않는다. 즉, DTV측에서 보면, VCT에 반드시 포함되어야 하는 service_location_descriptor는 액티브 채널일 경우에만 해당하고, 비액티브 채널에 대해서는 반드시 오지않아야 한다.
또한, 비액티브 채널의 보다 명확한 인식을 위해 미사용 필드(reserved field)(예, 6비트짜리)의 1비트를 할당하여 '비액티브 채널'임을 나타내는 플래그를 정의한다. 본 발명에서는 실시예로, 'for' 루프의 반복문 내의 hidden과 service_type 필드 사이에 있는 미사용 필드의 1비트를 '비액티브 채널'임을 나타내는 플래그 즉, 필드로 사용한다. 예를 들어, 상기 비액티브 채널 플래그가 1이면 정상적인 경우(미사용 필드값에서), 0이면 비액티브 채널을 나타내도록 한다.
본 발명은 상기된 세가지를 A/65에 추가하며, 이를 강제 조항으로 할 수도 있다. 이때, 상기된 세가지를 모두 A/65에 추가할 수도 있으며, 그중 적어도 어느 하나 이상만을 A/65에 추가할 수도 있다.
이와 같이, VCT에 비액티브 채널에 대한 정보가 들어있으므로 DTV 수신기는 VCT만 파싱하고도 현재 수신되는 가상 채널이 액티브 채널인지 비액티브 채널인지를 알 수 있다. 예를 들어, VCT 안의 program_number 값이 '0'이고, 미사용 필드를 할당하여 정의한 비액티브 채널 필드가 '0'이며, service_location_descriptor가 전송되지 않으면 현재 전송되는 VCT 비트스트림 신택스 내에 정의된 major_channel_number와 minor_channel_number가 비액티브 채널이라고 판정한다.
이때, 상기 DTV 수신기는 상기와 같은 과정에 의해 비액티브 채널이 검출되면 채널 업, 다운 키에 의한 채널 절환시 상기 비액티브 채널은 스킵시킬 수 있다.
한편, 본 발명에 의한 비액티브 채널 구분 방법은 도 4와 같이 케이블 VCT에도 적용할 수 있다.
이상에서와 같이 본 발명에 따른 가상 채널 테이블 데이타 구조 및 부가 정보 송수신 방법에 의하면, 송신측에서는 비액티브 채널을 구분할 수 있는 식별 정보를 VCT에 포함시켜 송신함으로써, DTV 수신기는 VCT만 파싱하고도 액티브 채널과 비액티브 채널을 구분할 수 있으므로 빠른 채널 전환을 할 수 있다. 또한, 비액티브 채널은 채널 업,다운 키에 의한 채널 절환시 스킵될 수 있으므로 시청자는 방송되지 않는 블랙 화면을 보지않고 채널 서핑(surfing)을 할 수 있다. 그리고, 비액티브 채널을 구애받지 않고 보낼 수 있으므로 보다 풍부한 EPG 서비스가 가능하다.
이상 설명한 내용을 통해 당업자라면 본 발명의 기술 사상을 일탈하지 아니하는 범위에서 다양한 변경 및 수정이 가능함을 알 수 있을 것이다.

Claims (9)

  1. 디지털 방송을 위해 정의된 프로그램 및 시스템 정보 프로토콜(PSIP)에 속하는 테이블 중 가상 채널 테이블(VCT) 데이터 구조에 있어서,
    상기 VCT의 비트스트림 신택스에 액티브 채널과 비액티브 채널을 구분할 수 있는 식별 정보가 포함되는 것을 특징으로 하는 가상 채널 테이블 데이터 구조.
  2. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 식별 정보는
    상기 VCT의 program_number 필드의 값을 '0'으로 하여 비액티브 채널임을 표시하는 것을 특징으로 하는 가상 채널 테이블 데이터 구조.
  3. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 식별 정보는
    상기 VCT의 service_location_descriptor의 number_elements 필드의 값을 '0'으로 하여 비액티브 채널임을 표시하는 것을 특징으로 하는 가상 채널 테이블 데이터 구조.
  4. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 식별 정보는
    비액티브 채널인 경우 상기 VCT 내에 service_location_descriptor를 포함시키지 않는 것을 특징으로 하는 가상 채널 테이블 데이터 구조.
  5. 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 식별 정보는
    상기 VCT의 미사용 필드의 적어도 한 비트 이상을 할당하여 비액티브 채널임을 표시하는 것을 특징으로 하는 가상 채널 테이블 데이터 구조.
  6. 제 5 항에 있어서, 상기 식별 정보는
    상기 VCT의 미사용 필드는 상기 VCT 비트스트림 신택스의 'for' 루프의 반복문 내에 있는 미사용 필드인 것을 특징으로 하는 가상 채널 테이블 데이터 구조.
  7. 디지털 방송을 위해 정의된 프로그램 및 시스템 정보 프로토콜(PSIP) 내의 가상 채널 테이블(VCT)의 비트스트림 신택스에 액티브 채널과 비액티브 채널을 구분할 수 있는 식별 정보를 포함시켜 전송하는 송신 단계와,
    전송되는 VCT를 파싱한 후 상기 VCT에 정의된 식별 정보로부터 현재 수신되는 채널이 액티브 채널인지 비액티브 채널인지를 판단하는 수신 단계를 포함하여 이루어지는 것을 특징으로 하는 부가정보 송수신 방법.
  8. 제 7 항에 있어서, 상기 송신 단계는
    비액티브 채널인 경우 상기 VCT 안의 program_number 값을 '0'으로, 미사용 필드의 적어도 한 비트 이상을 할당하고 할당된 비트를 '0'으로 설정하고, service_location_descriptor는 전송시키지 않는 것을 특징으로 하는 부가정보 송수신 방법.
  9. 제 8 항에 있어서, 상기 수신 단계는
    파싱된 VCT 비트스트림 신택스에서 program_number 값과 비액티브 채널 필드로 할당된 미사용 필드 값이 '0'으로 설정되고, service_location_descriptor가 전송되지 않으면 현재 수신되는 채널을 비액티브 채널로 판정하는 것을 특징으로 하는 부가정보 송수신 방법.
