Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention [0002] The present invention relates to a converter cooling apparatus for a vehicle, and more particularly, to a vehicle converter cooling apparatus and method capable of protecting a fan motor from flooding and leakage by separately arranging a cooling fan and a fan motor for cooling a vehicle converter .
Generally, a hybrid system of a vehicle can be configured by a combination of an internal combustion engine and an electric motor such as a gasoline engine and a diesel engine.
Such a vehicle may be equipped with an electric device such as a secondary battery, an inverter, and a DC / DC converter for driving a traveling electric motor.
Here, the secondary battery is discharged and charged by a chemical reaction. Since the chemical reaction reacts with the heat generation, the secondary battery must be cooled.
In addition, inverters and converters must be cooled, since their power elements generate heat.
Particularly, the DC / DC converter is an electronic device called a power control unit, and can be integrally mounted in an engine room of a vehicle or the like.
Therefore, since the converter itself generates a lot of heat, the cooling device is modularized to cool the heat of the converter.
Here, the cooling device of the converter includes a cooling fan and a cooling motor. In the cooling device, a cooling fan and a fan motor are provided outside the housing of the converter. By operating the cooling fan when the temperature of the converter increases, Can be prevented.
However, in the cooling device of such a converter, since the cooling fan and the cooling motor are exposed to the outside of the housing of the converter, if the fan motor floods or is short-circuited, the cooling device will fail.
In addition, even when the water inside the cooling fan is frozen, the fan motor is frequently caused to fail.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION An aspect of the present invention is to provide a vehicular converter cooling apparatus capable of preventing a failure of a cooling apparatus due to flooding and leakage of a fan motor by disposing a fan motor for driving a cooling fan on the inner surface of a converter case And methods.
