Description
여기서, 상기 카이랄 도펀트는 수직 배향과 상하 평행(parallel)하게 러빙된 액정셀에의 전기장 인가시 트위스트 방향을 일정한 한 방향으로 조절하는 역할을 한다. 널리 사용되고 있는 카이랄 도펀트들의 구조식은 하기와 같다.
CM-21로 명명된 카이랄 도펀트는 헤리컬 트위스트 파워(Helical Twist Power; HTP)가 통상의 액정혼합물에 1wt% 첨가후 측정시 78㎛*wt%의 값을 가지며, 레프트 헤리컬 센스(Left Helical Sense) 특징을 갖는다. CM-31의 카이랄 도펀트는 HTP값이 같은 조건에서 8이며, 레프트 헤리컬 센스 특징을 갖는다. CM-33의 카이랄 도펀트는 7의 HTP와 헤리컬 센스 특징을 갖는다. 예컨데, 레프트 헤리컬 센스 특징을 갖는 카이랄 도펀트를 액정층내에 첨가할 경우, 액정분자들은 좌선성으로 트위스트된다.
Claims (6)
- 소정 거리를 두고 대향하는 상부 기판과 하부 기판;상기 상부 기판과 하부 기판 사이에 개재되며, 유전율 이방성이 음인 수개의 액정 분자를 포함하는 액정층;상기 하부 기판의 내측면에 형성된 화소 전극;상기 상부 기판의 내측면에 형성되며, 상기 화소 전극과 함께 액정 분자를 동작시키는 전계를 형성하는 카운터 전극;상기 화소 전극과 액정층 사이에 개재된 제 1 수직 배향막;상기 카운터 전극과 액정층 사이에 개재된 제 2 수직 배향막;상기 상부 기판 외측면에 배치되며, 소정의 편광축을 갖는 편광자; 및상기 하부 기판 외측면에 배치되며, 상기 편광자의 편광축과 직교하는 흡수축을 갖는 분해자;를 포함하며,상기 제 1 수직 배향막은 소정 방향의 러빙축을 갖고, 상기 제 2 수직 배향막은 상기 제 1 수직 배향막의 러빙축과 180+α(α= 1 내지 45도)를 이루는 러빙축을 갖는 것을 특징으로 하는 수직 배향 모드 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 제 1 수직 배향막의 러빙축은 상기 편광자의 편광축과 ±20 내지 60°를 이루는 것을 특징으로 하는 수직 배향 모드 액정 표시 장치.
- 삭제
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 상부 기판과 분해자 사이 또는 하부 기판과 편광자 사이에 굴절율 이방성이 음인 액정 분자로 구성된 위상 보상판이 추가로 개재되는 것을 특징으로 하는 수직 배향 모드 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 액정층 내에 카이랄 도펀트가 추가로 첨가되는 것을 특징으로 하는 수직 배향 모드 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 5 항에 있어서, 상기 카이랄 도펀트는 50 내지 300㎛의 피치를 갖는 것을 수직 배향 모드 액정 표시 장치.
