Description
Claims (7)
- 제1 기판상에, 매트릭스형으로 설치된 복수의 화소 전극과, 대응하는 상기 화소 전극에 접속되도록 형성된 박막 트랜지스터 및 그 전극 배선을 구비하고,상기 제1 기판상의 상기 복수의 화소 전극과, 상기 제1 기판에 대향 배치된 제2 기판상의 공통 전극과의 사이에 끼워진 액정층을 화소 전극마다 구동하여 표시를 행하는 액티브 매트릭스형 액정 표시 장치로서,상기 박막 트랜지스터로서, 능동층에 형성된 다결정 실리콘층을 이용한 박막 트랜지스터를 이용하고,상기 제1 기판 및 제2 기판 사이에 끼워지는 상기 액정층의 각 액정 분자의 초기 배향을 상기 화소 전극에 대해 거의 수직 방향이 되도록 제어하며,상기 액정층에 이용하는 액정 재료로서, 측쇄에 불소를 구비하는 이하의 화학식 1∼화학식 6으로 표시되는 분자 구조를 구비한 재료 중에서,적어도 어느 한 종류의 액정 분자를 선택하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액티브 매트릭스형 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항에 있어서,상기 제2 기판상의 상기 공통 전극에는, 한개의 화소 영역 내에서 상기 액정 분자의 경사 방향이 다른 영역의 경계를 고정하는 수단을 설치하여, 상기 액정층의 배향 분할을 행하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액티브 매트릭스형 액정 표시 장치.
- 제2항에 있어서,상기 한개의 화소 영역 내에서 상기 액정 분자의 경사 방향이 다른 영역의 경계를 고정하는 수단은 배향 제어창인 것을 특징으로 하는 액티브 매트릭스형 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항 또는 제2항에 있어서,상기 제1 기판에서는,상기 제1 기판상에 형성된 박막 트랜지스터 및 그 전극 배선을 덮도록 평탄화 층간 절연막이 형성되고,상기 평탄화 층간 절연막상에 상기 복수의 화소 전극이 각각 형성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액티브 매트릭스형 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항 또는 제2항에 있어서,상기 제1 기판에서는,상기 제1 기판상에 형성된 박막 트랜지스터를 덮도록 평탄화 층간 절연막이 형성되고,적어도 상기 박막 트랜지스터의 형성 영역을 덮도록 상기 평탄화 층간 절연막상에 상기 복수의 화소 전극이 각각 형성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액티브 매트릭스형 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항 또는 제2항에 있어서,러빙 공정을 실시하는 일 없이, 상기 공통 전극 및 상기 화소 전극을 각각 덮도록 형성된 수직 배향막을 더 구비하고,상기 액정층에 이용되는 액정 재료는 부의 유전 이방성을 갖는 것을 특징으로 하는 액티브 매트릭스형 액정 표시 장치.
- 제1항 또는 제2항에 있어서,상기 제1 기판의 주변부에는, 상기 박막 트랜지스터와 거의 같은 구조의 박막 트랜지스터군으로 이루어지는 구동 회로가 형성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액티브 매트릭스형 액정 표시 장치.
