Description
Claims (23)
- 기지국과 신호 통신하는 셀룰러 전화를 통해 지리적 위치(geographic location) 결정을 행하는 방법에 있어서,위치 확인 신호(position location signal)를 검출하도록 시도하는 단계;상기 위치 확인 신호가 위치 확인 계산에 불충분한 것으로 판정하는 단계;상기 판정에 응답하여 상기 시도하는 단계를 중지하는 단계;셀룰러 통신 신호를 수신하는 단계;셀룰러 통신 신호의 신호 품질을 측정하는 단계;상기 측정에 응답하여 상기 신호 품질이 소정량만큼 향상되는 것을 기록하는 단계; 및상기 향상의 기록에 응답하여 위치 확인 신호를 검출하도록 재시도하는 단계를 포함하는 방법.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 측정 단계는,제1 선정 주기에 걸쳐 셀룰러 통신 신호의 제1 수신 신호 강도 측정을 행하여, 장기 신호 강도(long term signal strength)를 형성하는 단계; 및상기 제1 선정 주기보다 짧은 제2 선정 주기에 걸쳐 제2 수신 신호 강도 측정을 행하여, 단기 신호 강도를 결정하는 단계를 포함하는 방법.
- 제2항에 있어서, 상기 신호 품질의 향상을 기록하는 단계는 상기 단기 신호 강도가 장기 신호 강도보다 소정량만큼 더 큰지를 판정하는 단계를 포함하는 방법.
- 제1항, 제2항 및 제3항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서, 상기 기록 단계는 소정의 레벨을 초과하는 비트 에러 레이트, 소정의 레벨을 초과하는 프레임 소거 레이트, 및 소정의 레벨을 초과하는 신호 강도 중 어느 하나를 지시하는 방법.
- 제1항 내지 제3항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서, 상기 위치 확인 신호를 이용하여 상기 셀룰라 전화의 지리적 위치를 계산하는 방법.
- 셀룰러 전화를 통해 위치 결정을 개시하기 위한 장치에 있어서,셀룰러 통신 신호 및 글로벌 포지셔닝 시스템(GPS) 신호를 처리하기 위한 수신기(31, 42); 및상기 수신기에 결합되어, 수신된 GPS 신호가 너무 약하여 처리할 수 없는 것으로 판정한 때 상기 수신기(31, 42)의 적어도 일부(42)를 비활성화하고, 상기 셀룰러 통신 신호의 품질이 소정량만큼 향상한 것으로 판정한 때 상기 수신기(31, 42)의 적어도 일부(42)를 재활성화하여 GPS 신호를 수신하도록 하는 제어기(40)를 포함하는 장치.
- 제6항에 있어서, 상기 수신기(31, 42)의 적어도 일부는 GPS 수신기 회로를 포함하는 장치.
- 제6항에 있어서, 상기 수신기(31, 42)는 GPS 수신기(42) 및 셀룰러 통신 수신기(31)를 포함하는 장치.
- 제8항에 있어서, 상기 GPS 수신기(42)는 상기 셀룰러 통신 수신기(31)의 적어도 일부를 공유하는 장치.
- 제6항 내지 제9항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,상기 수신기(31, 42)는 셀룰라 통신 신호의 신호 강도를 측정하기 위한 서치 수신기(34), 및 위치 확인 신호를 수신하도록 시도하기 위하여 제1 선정 레이트로 주기적으로 활성화하는 GPS 수신기(42)를 포함하고, 상기 제어기(40)는 서치 수신기(34)와 GPS 수신기(42)에 결합되고, 상기 제어기는 위치 확인 신호 수신 시도에 실패한 상기 GPS 수신기(42)에 응답하여 주파수를 제1 선정 레이트에서 제2 선정 레이트로 감소되도록 적응되는 장치.
